Baris NCEL Match Review #46
31st January, 2013
Brighouse Town have moved up into second place in the Baris NCEL Premier Division as they continue to prove that they are genuine title contenders.
A 4-0 win at Long Eaton United in midweek has moved them to within three points of the leaders, Scarborough Athletic.
Ryan Hall, Tom Matthews and Kieran Ryan found the net to give them a three-goal cushion by the 29th minute before Hall got his second and their fourth early on in the second period.
Worksop Parramore have climbed up into fourth after they won by the same scoreline at home to Armthorpe Welfare but they may be too far behind to launch a championship challenge.
Jamie Green opened the scoring on 20 minutes before a Daniel McKenzie brace and their fourth from Scott Bates late on secured the victory.
Winterton Rangers remain bottom of the table after goals from Chris Gowen and Liam Salt condemned them to a 2-0 defeat at Pickering Town.
But, an injury time winner from Thomas Higginbottom has moved Lincoln Moorlands Railway out of the bottom three with a 2-1 victory at Barton Town Old Boys.
Meanwhile, a brace from Carl Stewart helped Tadcaster Albion to a 3-2 win at Glasshoughton Welfare and the Brewers are now up to sixth in the table.
The race for promotion from Division One continues to hot up with four sides now within five points of leaders, Athersley Recreation.
Albion Sports are second after a 0-0 draw at Hemsworth Miners Welfare whilst Cleethorpes Town and Shirebrook Town complete the top four after home victories.
Cleethorpes beat Askern Villa, 5-1, after going behind to a Brendan Thompson goal in the 28th minute.
Jack Debnam levelled from the spot before the interval and the hosts pushed on in the second half with goals from Luke Mascall, Marc Cooper, Johnathan Oglesby and Darren Hanslip.
Shirebrook were 3-1 victors over visitors AFC Emley, Carlos Forbes and Tom Mullen putting them two up before Anthony Haigh pulled one back on the hour.
But, an own goal from Joshua Cooke soon after gave the Langwith Road side the win.
Hallam were also 3-1 winners at home to Grimsby Borough whilst goals from Rob Evans and Steve Owens earned Clipstone Welfare a 2-0 win at Appleby Frodingham.
And, Heanor Town bowed out of the Derbyshire Senior Cup at the Quarter-Finals stage as they went down 7-0 at Evo-Stik Premier Division side, Ilkeston.
