Baris NCEL Match Review #65

7th April, 2013

Scarborough Athletic have maintained a six point lead at the top of the Baris NCEL Premier Division after their 3-0 home win over Winterton Rangers on Saturday.

Ryan Blott and Jimmy Beadle struck in the opening eighteen minutes to make it a comfortable afternoon for the Seadogs before Bryan Hughes added the third with less than a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.

Brighouse Town remain on their coat tails, though, as they won by the same scoreline at Thackley.

After a goalless first period, Tom Matthews' brace and an injury time strike from James Hurtley means they remain in touching distance of the leaders with two games in hand but Scarborough have a far superior goal difference.

Third-placed Bridlington Town are all but out of the title chase after their 3-2 defeat at Barton Town Old Boys, leaving them sixteen points adrift of their tenants with six games to play.

The home side went in ahead at the break, courtesy of Tim Taylor's penalty, Scott Phillips levelled early in the second half before Alex Sherwood quickly restored Barton's lead and Gareth Owen doubled it on the hour mark.

Nathan Cook's late penalty gave Bridlington some hope of a revival but they could not find a vital third.

Tadcaster Albion won to stay fourth, Stuart Rice's late goal earning them a 2-1 win at Liversedge whilst Worksop Parramore remain in fifth after their 1-1 draw with visitors Parkgate.

Bottom side Arnold Town were beaten by second half goals from Brian Cusworth and Craig Gladwin as they went down 2-0 at Maltby Main but they stay four points behind Hall Road Rangers who lost 2-1 at home to Retford United, Adam Scott and Andy Walkden finding the net for the Badgers.

Glasshoughton Welfare won 2-0 at Staveley Miners Welfare whilst Long Eaton United were 2-1 winners at home to Pickering Town and there was a 0-0 draw between Nostell Miners Welfare and Heanor Town.

Albion Sports were the big winners in Division One as they were the only side in the top six to pick up all three points at the weekend.

Athersley Recreation's lead at the top has been cut to a point after their 2-2 draw at home to Rossington Main with Tom Harban's 80th minute penalty rescuing them from defeat.

A Karl Hall hat-trick helped move second-placed Sports to within touching distance of the summit with a game in hand as they won 4-1 over visitors AFC Emley.

Cleethorpes Town stay third but are now eight points away from the top two after their 1-0 defeat at home to Dinnington Town, Tom Fairweather with the second half winner.

Daryl Clare's 84th minute winner for Louth Town saw Knaresborough Town's promotion hopes falter as they were beaten 1-0 and they remain fourth ahead of Shirebrook Town who drew 1-1 at home to Eccleshill United, Robert Camm snatching them a point with an injury-time equaliser.

Askern Villa remain stranded at the foot of the table after a 7-0 loss at Bottesford Town with Danny Boulton netting a hat-trick for the home side.

Yorkshire Amateur move out of the bottom two at the expense of Appleby Frodingham who they beat 4-1 at Bracken Edge.

There were away victories for Worsbrough Bridge Athletic and Clipstone Welfare, winning 1-0 at Hallam and 2-0 at Hemsworth Miners Welfare, respectively.

Selby Town beat visitors Teversal, 2-1, to keep their recent revival going.

Jack Wooley and Nathan Kamara struck in the second half for the Robins before Kristian Witcombe got an injury time consolation for the away side.

And, Pontefract Collieries were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Grimsby Borough.
