Baris NCEL Match Review #69

21st April, 2013

Congratulations to Scarborough Athletic who won the Baris NCEL Premier Division on Saturday with a 2-0 home victory over Retford United.

Goals in each half from Bryan Hughes and Tony Hackworth meant the Seadogs completed their home league programme unbeaten and are now an unassailable eight points clear of Brighouse Town who drew 3-3 at Barton Town Old Boys to see their title challenge end.

The Seadogs, who came into the NCEL in 2007, are now expected to have their promotion to the Evo-Stik League rubber-stamped and we wish them all the best for the future and hope they have enjoyed their time in the League.

The trophy was handed over and the celebrations began after it was heard that Barton had come from 3-0 down with an hour gone to get a point with a Gareth Barlow brace and a late Tim Taylor equaliser.

Third-placed Bridlington Town and Tadcaster Albion, who are fourth, both won with Bridlington 3-0 victors on their travels at Worksop Parramore whilst goals from Josh Barrett, Chris Youldon and Stuart Rice earned Tadcaster a win by the same scoreline at Long Eaton United.

Bottom side Arnold Town picked up three points on the travels, winning 2-1 at Thackley, courtesy of a brace from Ricky Gardner.

But, they stay a point behind Hall Road Rangers who won 4-0 at Armthorpe Welfare with Danny Smith opening the scoring before a Jordan Cox double and the fourth from Owen Mountain giving them a priceless victory in the fight for Premier Division survival.

Two goals from Daniel Hagan helped ease Winterton Rangers' relegation fears as they won 4-2 at Liversedge to climb out of the bottom four.

There were also 3-0 away victories for Pickering Town and Parkgate at Heanor Town and Nostell Miners Welfare, respectively.

And, Malby Main are up to thirteenth in the table after their 3-1 home win over Staveley Miners Welfare.

The top two sides in Baris NCEL Division One met and shared the spoils as leaders Albion Sports drew 1-1 at home with Athersley Recreation.

Joe Thornton had put the away side ahead on 65 minutes but Danny Brown got what could prove to be a vital late equaliser to keep Sports a point ahead with a game in hand.

Third-placed Cleethorpes Town missed out on a chance to close the gap as they were held 1-1 at home by Knaresborough Town, Joel Freeston claiming a point for the visitors after Darren Hanslip had given the home side a 68th minute lead.

AFC Emley moved up into fourth, winning 3-0 at Selby Town, Liam Schofield, Ashley Flynn and Jordan Townsend with their goals.

Along with Selby, none of the other three bottom five sides who played could avoid defeat.

Askern Villa remain six points adrift in the basement after a 9-0 defeat at Pontefract Collieries, Kingsley Wetherald with four of the goals as Villa's goal difference went over the dreaded -100 mark.

Yorkshire Amateur stay next-to-bottom after they went down 3-0 at home to Eccleshill United and Rossington Main lost 4-1 at Bottesford Town.

Matt Kennedy scored both Louth Town's goals in their 2-0 home victory over Teversal whilst Hemsworth Miners Welfare were single goal winners at home to Grimsby Borough.

And, in the local derby between Shirebrook Town and Clipstone Welfare, there was late drama as Liam Pride had looked to have given the visitors a 2-1 win in injury time only for Mitcham Husbands to level it at 2-2 just seconds later.
