Baris NCEL Match Review #73

7th May, 2013

Congratulations to Thackley who have become the first team to successfully retain the Baris NCEL League Cup since Hucknall Town in the mid-1990s.

They beat Louth Town 3-1 in the season finale at Staveley Miners Welfare's Inkersall Road ground on Monday afternoon to add to their success over Shirebrook Town last year.

It looked as though Louth could upset the form book, however, when the Division One side took the lead after eight minutes and held on to their advantage until the final quarter of the match.

But, Jordan Missin levelled the scores before Nicky Matthews and Brice Tiani ensured the trophy was staying with the Premier Division side in what was boss Vince Brockie's final match in charge after two seasons at Dennyfield.

The bottom two teams were confirmed on Saturday as the Premier Division season came almost to an end - with a decision yet to be made on the recently postponed clash between Hall Road Rangers and Worksop Parramore.

Hall Road Rangers, however, will finish either in the basement or next-to-bottom after their 0-0 home draw with Winterton Rangers along with Lincoln Moorlands Railway who were beaten 3-0 at home by Retford United, Richard Medcalf with two of the Badgers' goals in a victory that saw them finish fourth.

But, the relegation places are yet to be finalised with issues elsewhere possibly affecting who will drop out of the Premier Division.

Third-placed Bridlington Town ended their season with a 5-2 victory at Thackley to finish four points behind champions Scarborough Athletic and it means the top three all secured 95 points or more.

The Seasiders had five different goalscorers with Nathan Cook, Craig Hogg, Billy Logan, Tyler Collishaw and Scott Phillips all finding the net.

There was also an away win for Pickering Town, 2-0 at Liversedge with goals from Simon Sturdy and Josh Hutchinson, which saw the Pikes conclude the campaign in fifth spot.

Armthorpe Welfare were 2-1 victors at home to Glasshoughton Welfare and Staveley Miners Welfare beat visitors Arnold Town by a single goal.

Barton Town Old Boys and Parkgate ended their campaigns with a 1-1 draw at the Euronics Ground.

The top two in Division One celebrated their excellent campaigns by signing off with final day victories.

Karl Hall and Malachi Farquharson netted in champions Albion Sports' 2-0 home win over Teversal and Jason Bentley got the goal in runners-up Athersley Recreation's single goal victory over visitors AFC Emley.

Louth Town ended their league season in third as goals from Carl Martin and Jonathon Walton secured a 2-0 home victory against Dinnington Town, going above Cleethorpes Town who had already played all their games.

The two sides in the basement saw their seasons end in suitably disappointing fashion as bottom club Askern Villa went down 10-2 at home to Pontefract Collieries, Kingsley Wetherald with a hat-trick whilst there were also two each for Andrew Catton, Wayne Brooke and Steve Lyon for the Colls in a game that the visitors led 5-1 after just twenty minutes.

Next-to-bottom Yorkshire Amateur were beaten 2-1 at home by Hallam.

Robert Camm's hat-trick made it a winning end for Mark Shaw as Shirebrook Town boss, as they beat Appleby Frodingham 4-1 at Langwith Road.

And, the other three games ended in away victories for Grimsby Borough, Rossington Main and Knaresborough Town at Bottesford Town, Clipstone Welfare and Selby Town, respectively.
