Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2013/14 #2

15th August, 2013

Twelve sides have perfect records after the second round of matches in the 2013/14 Toolstation NCEL season in midweek.

Retford United lead the way in the Premier Division after their 3-0 win at Liversedge, a defeat that leaves the hosts bottom of the table.

Liam Wilkin's sixteenth minute penalty put the Badgers on their way before Lee Holmes struck twice, one in each half, to make sure of the win.

Bridlington Town also picked up their second victory, courtesy of a last-gasp second for Craig Hogg in their 2-1 home win over Barton Town Old Boys.

The three sides who have moved up into the Premier Division, Athersley Recreation, Basford United and Albion Sports, also made it six points out of six.

Athersley came from two goals down at home to Heanor Town to win 3-2, Joe Thornton, Kieron Scargill and Ryan Blackburn for the hosts after Courey Grantham and Kieran de Brouwer had given the visitors the ideal start.

A 38th minute penalty from Tyeisse Nightingale earned Basford United a 1-0 victory over away side Winterton Rangers whilst Albion Sports survived a late rally at home to Garforth Town to notch up a 3-2 win.

They were three-up by the 64th minute through Danny Brown, a Jake McMurrough own goal and a Daniel Facey strike before CJ Lyle's double in the last ten minutes gave them a scare.

Thackley are the other side with a hundred percent record after Damian Hopkins struck in injury time to snatch a 3-2 home win over Maltby Main.

Elsewhere, Worksop Parramore and Brighouse Town picked up 3-1 victories at Parkgate and Tadcaster Albion, respectively.

There were also home wins for Armthorpe Welfare, 2-1 against Nostell Miners Welfare, and Staveley Miners Welfare who beat Glasshoughton Welfare by a single goal.

New NCEL side Shaw Lane Aquaforce head the pack in Division One after Christopher Coy's brace helped them to a 4-2 home victory over Hall Road Rangers whilst early strikes from Alex Hallam and Liam Schofield ensured AFC Emley's second win over visitors Cleethorpes Town.

The two Nottinghamshire sides have also had a perfect start, Clipstone winning 1-0 at home to Yorkshire Amateur, thanks to an 89th minute Rob Paling penalty, and Teversal came from behind to beat Rossington Main at Carnarvon Street, Colin Cockerill's penalty cancelling out Josh Blenkiron's opener and Sean Gregory got the winner four minutes from time.

Stevie Wright's 80th minute strike saw hosts Grimsby Borough claim their second victory, 3-2 over Hemsworth Miners Welfare, whilst Worsbrough Bridge Athletic complete the sides with six points after Adam Podmore scored the only goal of their match at home to Pontefract Collieries.

The best goalscoring feat in midweek was for Knaresborough Town as Craig Heard netted four times in their 5-2 win at Louth Town.

However, the most breathtaking game was an eleven goal thriller between Appleby Frodingham and Hallam.

The home side led 4-2 going into the interval but a second-half revival by Hallam saw them snatch the points with a 6-5 win, Sam Read getting the third of his hat-trick in stoppage time.

Two goals from Aaron Moxam helped Shirebrook Town to a 3-0 victory at Dinnington Town, Eccleshill United won 1-0 at Selby Town and the only draw in midweek was at Bottesford Town who were held 1-1 by visitors Dronfield Town.
