Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2013/14 #7
2nd September, 2013
Two goals from Ben Watkiss helped Long Eaton United become the only Toolstation NCEL side so far to progress to the First Round of Qualifying in the FA Cup with Budweiser at the weekend.
But, six other teams - Albion Sports, Basford United, Bridlington Town, Brighouse Town, Shirebrook Town and Worksop Parramore - are hoping to join them as they take part in Preliminary Round replays in midweek.
Long Eaton were 4-0 winners at home to Shepshed Dynamo with Bradley Wells and Gerome Palmer also finding the net for the Grange Park side who now travel to Coalville Town in a fortnight's time.
Albion Sports came from 2-0 down at half-time in their Sunday game at home to South Shields to draw 3-3 with David Brown netting twice and Daniel Facey also getting on the scoresheet.
In the other games which were played on Saturday, Tyeisse Nightingale's 88th-minute leveller ensured a replay for Basford as they drew 2-2 with visitors Quorn.
Brighouse were denied a win at Billingham Synthonia as the home side cancelled out Tom Matthews' 55th minute strike in stoppage time to ensure they meet again on Tuesday.
Craig Hogg earned Bridlington a 1-1 draw at Guisborough Town whilst Parramore claimed the same scoreline at Mossley, courtesy of a Sam Smith goal, as did Shirebrook as Danny Bacon scored in their match at Sheffield.
Sadly, there were defeats on their travels in the FA Cup for AFC Emley, Barton Town Old Boys, Retford United and Staveley Miners Welfare.
Thackley moved to the top of the Premier Division with their sixth win out of six as a Chris Davey double helped them to a 3-1 home victory over Nostell Miners Welfare who, conversely, have now lost all their opening six matches.
The only other side in the top ten to be playing in the league was Athersley Recreation but they were held to a 1-1 draw by visitors Pickering Town after their 31st minute opener from Jamie Sutton was immediately cancelled out by a Tom Adams penalty.
Garforth Town were the biggest winners as Josh Greenhalgh's hat-trick, along with goals from Dominic Robinson and CJ Lyle, ensured a 5-0 scoreline at Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
Heanor Town and Glasshoughton Welfare both beat their respective hosts, Armthorpe Welfare and Liversedge, 3-1, whilst goals from Stuart Rice and George Bissett made it a 2-0 home win for Tadcaster Albion at the expense of Maltby Main.
And, Parkgate were held to a 2-2 draw by Winterton Rangers at Green Lane after they had taken a two goal lead in the first half.
A Marcus Edwards hat-trick helped Eccleshill United stay top of Division One with a 4-1 victory at Dinnington Town, a point ahead of Shaw Lane Aquaforce who won 6-1 at Dronfield Town with two goals each from Kane Reece and Ashley Flynn contributing to a comfortable afternoon for the visitors.
Lee Garside also netted three times, twice from the penalty spot, as Worsbrough Bridge Athletic beat hosts Yorkshire Amateur, 5-1, to climb up into third.
Teversal are now in fourth after a 5-2 home win over bottom side Appleby Frodingham with five different scorers, Eli Mitchell, Kristian Whitcombe, Oliver Wood, Callum Pursglove and Greg Tobin.
A Louis Grant double helped Grimsby Borough to a 3-2 victory over visitors Clipstone and they have moved up to sixth whilst Brody Robertson got both of Cleethorpes Town's goals as they beat Selby Town, 2-1, at the Rigid Group Stadium to go up into seventh.
Player-manager Daryl Clare struck twice for Louth Town in their 4-1 win at home to Rossington Main, Knaresborough Town defeated Hallam, 2-1, at Manse Lane and Andy Davis struck a late winner with the only goal of the game for Hemsworth Miners Welfare at Pontefract Collieries.
And, four goals were shared between hosts Hall Road Rangers and Bottesford Town in the division's only draw on Saturday.
