17th November, 2013
Four Toolstation NCEL teams are through to the Third Round of the FA Carlsberg Vase after winning their matches on Saturday.
Two - Bridlington Town and Thackley - progressed at the expense of league rivals with the latter having the most comfortable afternoon.
They won 4-0 at home to Armthorpe Welfare, although they had to wait until the hour mark to get their first goal through Matthew Hall and then they struck three times in the last ten minutes, courtesy of Chris Davey, Brendan Maltby and Matthew Mathers, to secure the victory.
Bridlington, meanwhile, were taken to extra time at Athersley Recreation before Joel Sutton's spot kick on 110 minutes secured the tie with the game's only goal.
Brighouse Town won 2-0 at Norton United with strikes from Tom Matthews and Ryan Hall in the second period whilst Josh Scully's early goal and Tim Whittaker's late on saw Staveley Miners Welfare through by the same scoreline at home to Glossop North End.
The rest of our sides, however, bowed out of the competition with AFC Emley and Worksop Parramore going down 3-1 in their games, at home to Jarrow Roofing Boldon CA and at Ashington, respectively, with Parramore reduced to nine men in their match.
Cleethorpes Town missed two penalties in their 6-1 home defeat to Morpeth Town, Long Eaton United were beaten 2-0 in extra time by visitors Coleshill Town and Parkgate lost 3-0 at Whickham.
In the Premier Division, Tadcaster Albion extended their lead at the top of the table to five points with a 4-0 win at Pickering Town, Carl Stewart's brace added to by strikes from Nick Thompson and James Coupland.
A Henry Gill hat-trick helped Barton Town Old Boys to a 5-0 home victory over Lincoln Moorlands Railway and they are now up to third, nine points behind the leaders but with two games in hand.
Retford United climbed to fourth with a 2-0 win on their own patch over Maltby Main, Reece Thompson's goal in first half injury time added to after the interval by a Liam Wilkin spot kick.
Bottom side Nostell Miners Welfare picked up their fifth point of the campaign with a 1-1 draw at Winterton Rangers whilst there were away wins for Albion Sports, 2-1 at Glasshoughton Welfare, and for Basford United, 1-0 at Liversedge.
Shaw Lane Aquaforce have returned back to the top of Division One as Ashley Flynn scored all their goals in a 4-1 home victory at the expense of Rossington Main.
Third-placed Bottesford Town were the day's biggest winners, 7-0 at next-to-bottom Appleby Frodingham, with Danny Boulton netting a hat-trick and Terry Barwick claiming a brace.
Two more from Division One's top scorer Marcus Edwards secured a 3-1 win for Eccleshill United at home to Yorkshire Amateur to move them up into fourth above Worsbrough Bridge Athletic who went down 3-0 to visitors Hall Road Rangers.
Louth Town remain in the basement after their 4-1 defeat at Dinnington Town and Hallam fall into the bottom three after they lost 4-0 at Selby Town with the home side side scoring three times in second half stoppage time.
Two goals in two first half minutes from Liam Pride and Kieran Watson made it a 2-1 victory for Clipstone at home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
The remaining three matches ended in draws, Dronfield Town finishing 2-2 at home to Knaresborough Town whilst it was 1-1 for Grimsby Borough at Shirebrook and for Teversal at home to Pontefract Collieries.
