Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2013/14 #35

8th December, 2013

There was disappointment for all three Toolstation NCEL sides who were involved in FA Carlsberg Vase action on Saturday as they bowed out of the competition at the Third Round stage.

Thackley went down 1-0 at Ashington whilst Bridlington Town were beaten 2-0 at Spennymoor Town and Staveley Miners Welfare lost 2-0 at home to Morpeth Town.

It means the league's hopes are now pinned on Brighouse Town whose home clash with Whickham was called off due to a waterlogged pitch and is now being played on Tuesday evening.

Tadcaster Albion stretched their unbeaten run to 23 games and kept their lead at the top of the Premier Division at eight points with a 2-0 home victory over Heanor Town.

Denny Ingram opened the scoring on eight minutes and Josh Barrett made sure of the points early in the second period.

Gareth Barlow scored all Barton Town Old Boys' goals in their 4-1 victory at Garforth Town to stay in second spot ahead of Retford United who moved up into third following a 4-3 win at Worksop Parramore.

It was another miserable afternoon for the division's bottom three sides as they were all beaten with basement side Nostell Miners Welfare going down 2-1 at home to Albion Sports who climb up into fifth following their victory.

Lincoln Moorlands Railway lost 4-0 to visitors Parkgate, with two goals from George Morley helping the away side on their way to three points.

And, Winterton Rangers fell to a heavy 8-1 defeat at home to Pickering Town, Joe Danby getting a hat-trick for the Pikes to move them up into ninth spot.

Former Aston Villa and England midfielder Lee Hendrie scored on his debut for Basford United as they won 3-1 at home to Armthorpe Welfare and Athersley Recreation defeated their hosts, Glasshoughton Welfare, 2-0.

The top two sides in Division One both came from behind to win 3-1 and extend the lead between them and the rest to eight points.

Shaw Lane Aquaforce remain top on goal difference after their success at Hall Road Rangers despite an eighth minute opener from Adam Foster for the home side.

Ashley Flynn quickly levelled and Danny Frost then struck twice in the last quarter-of-an-hour to claim the victory.

All four goals in Cleethorpes Town's home game came in the opening 21 minutes with AFC Emley taking the lead through Sam Jerome before Johnathan Oglesby's double and a third from Brody Robertson gave the hosts the win.

Andrew Catton's winner on 84 minutes earned Pontefract Collieries a 2-1 home victory over Worsbrough Bridge Athletic and they climb above the side defeated into fourth.

Louth Town remain at the foot of the table after a 3-1 defeat at Knaresborough Town, two points behind Appleby Frodingham who were beaten 5-0 at Hallam, Sam Eckhardt with a hat-trick and Adam Askwith with a brace for the home side.

There were 2-1 victories for Rossington Main at home to Teversal, Shirebrook Town over visitors Dinnington Town and Clipstone at Yorkshire Amateur.

And, Grimsby Borough picked up three points on their travels, winning 3-2 at Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

Meanwhile, Long Eaton United won 1-0 at home to Dronfield Town in the Second Round of the Derbyshire Senior Cup, Blaine Hancock with the goal after ten minutes.
