Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2013/14 #41
5th January, 2014
Tadcaster Albion missed out on a chance to close the gap on Toolstation NCEL Premier Division leaders Barton Town Old Boys as they went down 5-3 at Basford United on Saturday.
The Brewers' trip to Nottingham was one of only five games in the division to survive the wet weather and they found themselves 4-0 down by half-time with a Matthew Sparks own goal followed by strikes from Fabian Smith, Tyeisse Nightingale and Ryan Whitehurst and it proved to be a deficit they could not overcome.
Basford remain in third spot, one point ahead of Thackley who won 2-1 at Winterton Rangers, Nicky Matthews and Mike Garrod with their goals before there was a late consolation for the home side from Daniel Hagan.
An injury-time penalty from Joel Sutton grabbed a point for Bridlington Town in a 3-3 draw at Athersley Recreation whilst second-half strikes from Darren Mansaram and Craig Morley ensured a 2-0 win for Armthorpe Welfare at Garforth Town.
Daniel Riley's 83rd minute goal gave Maltby Main a 2-1 victory at home to Parkgate and they move up into fifteenth.
Three matches fell victim to the weather in Division One including clashes for the top two sides, Shaw Lane Aquaforce and Cleethorpes Town.
Third-placed Bottesford Town closed the gap on them to two points with a 6-0 home victory over bottom side Louth Town, Terry Barwick's hat-trick helping them to a comfortable win.
Kyle Hawthorne, Gareth Grant and Chris Kamara netted in Pontefract Collieries' 3-0 defeat of visitors Hall Road Rangers to move up into fourth ahead of Shirebrook Town and Eccleshill United who were both held at home.
Shirebrook needed to come from behind twice with penalties from Aaron Moxam to draw 2-2 with Knaresborough Town whilst Eccleshill shared six goals with Appleby Frodingham.
Clipstone continued their good run of form with a 2-0 victory at Selby Town, Keiron Watson and Brandon Shaw striking twice at the start of the second half to climb into seventh spot.
There were also away wins for Dinnington Town, 2-1 at Hemsworth Miners Welfare, and for Grimsby Borough, 3-0 at Yorkshire Amateur, whilst Rossington Main picked up three points with a 2-0 home victory over AFC Emley.
