Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2022/23 #59

16th March, 2023

Yorkshire Amateur became the first team to have their relegation place confirmed despite their 2-2 home draw with Frickley Athletic in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division in midweek.

Alfie Wikinson's injury-time equaliser rescued a point for them after Jake Boyd's opener had been cancelled out by Alhassane Keita and Lloyd Smith had put the visitors ahead.

The draw means that the Ammers are sixteen points away from safety with five games to play so can no longer escape the bottom two.

Bottesford Town remain alongside them in the drop zone after a 2-0 home loss to leaders North Ferriby.

It took until the hour mark for the deadlock to be broken with Danny Earl netting for the Villagers before an own goal from Cliff Byrne ensured the victory for the away side.

If results go their way, Ferriby can now lift the title on Saturday.

Golcar United are up to ninth after a 1-0 victory at home to fourth-placed Penistone Church, Buddy Cox netting the decider after 20 minutes.

And, Thackley were 2-0 up at home to Garforth Town with Ben Grech-Brooksbank and Frankie Sinfield putting the hosts seemingly in charge by the hour mark.

But, James Burgess and Nick Thompson provided the goals for Garforth's fightback and they stay in fifth whilst the Dennyboys remain in thirteenth.

In Division One, Campion have extended their lead at the summit to seven points after their 4-0 home victory over Staveley Miners Welfare.

Marcus Day and Daniel Illingworth had the hosts in command by the quarter-of-an-hour mark before Patrick Sykes added a third and an Addison Bliss own goal cemented the win in the second period.

Third-placed Harrogate Railway Athletic lost some ground in the title race as they drew 3-3 at home with Nostell Miners Welfare.

Kieran Greenway grabbed an injury-time leveller, his second goal of the evening, to snatch a point for the Rail after Jack Bull had put the away side 3-2 up with ten minutes to go.

Fatlum Ibrahimi also got on the scoresheet for Harrogate whilst Jack McGahan and Reagan Waud added to Nostell's tally.

Jak Kelly's hat-trick meant a 3-1 home win for Horbury Town over Retford FC in a battle of two sides in the hunt for a play-off place.

Alex Wonham scored for Retford who are eighth whilst Horbury strengthened their challenge in sixth with the victory.

Brigg Town's play-off ambitions were hit with a 5-1 loss at Selby Town, Joshua Fraiwald scoring their only goal whilst a Kyle Fish hat-trick was added to by a Liam Flanagan penalty and Alex Clarke strike for the Robins.

In the fight to avoid relegation, Shirebrook Town climbed out of the bottom three with a 4-0 home win over neighbours Ollerton Town.

Gavin Allott, Ashley Grayson, Jake Squires and Nathan Jessop scored for the Langwith Road hosts who leapfrog over Parkgate to above the dotted line.

Swallownest stay in the drop zone, now two points from safety, after a 0-0 home draw with Beverley Town.
