Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2022/23 #68

16th April, 2023

Horbury Town and Rossington Main will contest next weekend's Toolstation NCEL Division One Play-Off Final after narrow victories on Saturday.

Horbury, who finished sixth in the regular season, travelled to Harrogate Railway Athletic who had ended the campaign in second with 26 points separating the two teams.

But, Gibril Bojang's nineteenth-minute strike proved to be the winner in a well-deserved 1-0 victory for Darren Barnes' side in a closely-fought contest that also saw the Rail miss a penalty.

Rossington will host the Final as third-placed Main edged out another nail-biting encounter, 1-0 over visitors Wakefield AFC.

Gregory Young pounced in the 69th minute for the only goal of the game in front of a crowd of 826 at Oxford Street whilst 483 watched the game at Harrogate to make it two excellent attendances for the Semi-Finals.

And, it will be an intriguing Final of contrasts next Saturday with Rossington aiming for promotion from Division One for the first time since they entered the league in 1991 whilst Horbury will look to move up to the Premier Division in their first season at Step 6.

Meanwhile, two games were played in the Premier Division as the regular season draws nearer to a close with Goole AFC's bottom-two finish confirmed following their 5-0 loss at Silsden AFC.

Jack Normanton's brace was added to by a Tyler Walker own goal and strikes from Lennon O'Grady and Ellis Hudson for the Cobbydalers who end the campaign in eleventh spot.

Bottesford Town scored early twice in their home clash with Eccleshill United, Muhamet Gashi and Jonathan Nyantou with their goals, but the Eagles fought back through Matthew Sykes and a Luke Sidaway penalty to make sure the spoils were shared in a 2-2 draw.

Barton Town's home game with Emley AFC was called off due to a waterlogged pitch and the two remaining games in the Premier Division will be at the Easy Buy Stadium.

The Swans host Golcar United on Monday night before the rearranged game with the Pewits a week on Tuesday.
