Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2023/24 #81

12th May, 2024

Parkgate completed their incredible season by adding the JCP Construction League Cup to their Toolstation NCEL Division One title in midweek.

The Steelmen defeated Premier Division winners Emley AFC in a battle of the champions in the Final at Scunthorpe United's Attis Arena on Wednesday night to complete a remarkable double.

Brandon Whitfield put them ahead in the 37th minute before a double in the final quarter of the match from Cian Guest secured the victory for Scott Mason's side.

The entertaining encounter was part of a final week of matches as the curtain came down on the 2023/24 season.

It all came to end on Saturday as a massive crowd of 1,525 watched the Division One Play-Off Final between Beverley Town and their visitors Shirebrook Town.

Both sides had amassed 100 points or more in the regular season so it promised to be a tight encounter and so it proved with a 1-1 draw leading to spot kicks that were won by Beverley 4-2.

Benjamin Hinchliffe put the hosts ahead midway through the first half before Bradley McGowan restored parity on the hour mark.

The home side then prevailed in the shoot-out to secure their place in the Premier Division for next season in only their second campaign in the NCEL.

Earlier in the week, there was disappointment in County Cup Finals for Knaresborough Town and Penistone Church who were beaten by higher-ranked opposition.

Knaresborough went down 4-0 to Pontefract Collieries in the West Riding County Cup that was played at Ossett United FC's ground whilst a trip to Hillsborough for Penistone ended in a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Worksop Town in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup.

And, the last game of the Division One regular season was cancelled as hosts Clay Cross Town were unable to field a side so the win was awarded to visitors Wombwell Town.
