Division One side Gedling Town have added two more players to their squad as their preparations gather pace for the new season.

18-year-old Dominic Jones is a former Wales U21 player and was quoted by his international manager Brian Flynn as "an exceptional talent".

He underlined his potential by scoring Gedling's goal in Saturday's 1-all draw against Shepshed Dynamo.

He's joined at the Riverside Ground by James Spears, a 17-year-old captured from local football.

Spears was recommended to the club by a local scout working for a Premiership side who says he has the ability to become a professional player.

Both players have been put on contract by managers Gary Hayward and Andy Freeman.

Another to have put pen-to-paper, meanwhile, is ex-Sheffield and Hallam player Lee Mellon, who impressed by scoring in the friendlies against Gresley Rovers and Buxton.

Meanwhile, club chairman Roland Ash hopes that the local public will show backing to their promotion challenge.

He told the NCEL Website that the club were disappointed that less than fifty spectators came to watch their match with Buxton last Tuesday.

He said: "We play good football that entertains the crowd and we use young local talent.

"Our ground is now possibly one of the best in the League following many recent improvements and our admission prices are possibly the lowest in the NCEL.

"We want the people of Gedling, Arnold and the surrounding areas to show that they really care and want to support local football."
