Newell Takes Over at Owls
19th May, 2013
Baris NCEL Division One side Cleethorpes Town have announced that Marcus Newell is their new manager.
A man described as a great source of football knowledge and of experience in the game, the former first team coach said that he was pleased and excited in response to a question on his feelings around his new role at the helm of the Owls.
Newell wants to hit the ground running with a promotion-winning campaign next season in his sights.
Andy Liddle's successor believes that his squad are ready for the challenge which was evident when he was questioned on his evaluation of the side he has inherited, saying: "They're a good, strong squad with a lot of good players who shouldn't be playing at this level but they haven't applied themselves."
However, the new manager is in a buoyant mood and believes that he can "get an extra ten to fifteen percent out of the squad."
Newell is also confident in the belief that he can "make the players better." The new man also hinted at his desire to bring in a couple of fresh faces to the club, stating that he would like "two or three new signings."
The former Grimsby Borough midfielder's ambition should be a source of excitement for the Owls faithful as Newell discussed with fellow club officials his long term desire for Cleethorpes Town to mount a challenge to local side Grimsby Town in the next fifteen years, stating that the infrastructure was there.
But, the new man doesn't just want to make advancements on the pitch with Town and his aims reflect the Owls' family style philosophy as the boss stated: "I want a closer unit right throughout the club."
It promises to be an exciting new era for the Owls and, when players Darren Hanslip and Luke Mascall were posed questions, this was reflected in their responses: "It's going to be an exciting time for the club, we can go higher and everyone wants promotion," stated a confident Hanslip whilst Mascall also said he believes that, under the new regime, the club can go "a lot further and the style of football will suit us going forward."
Town will be hoping that the new man can live up to the billing and lead the club to bigger and better things in the coming years.
