Glapwell Land Hot Shot Johnson

19th July, 2006

Glapwell have been given a major boost ahead of the new season by landing the signature of former Shirebrook Town striker Simon Johnson.

The pacy, prolific front man was taken by former Hucknall Town manager John Ramshaw to his new charges at Hednesford Town towards the end of last season, but it is undestood that he left the New Cross Keys club because of the amount of travelling involved.

Johnson, 23, who also trialled for Conference North Alfreton Town last season, had attracted the interest of a number of other NCEL clubs, and it is understood that he was on the shopping list of Sutton Town, Gedling Town and Division One outfit South Normanton Athletic.

He has joined the Hall Corner club on a non-contract basis after new manager Les McJannet was forced into an almost total rebuild of the side with most of last season's squad having moved on.

"Simon is probably the best goal scorer at our level in the area," said McJannet, "so we are delighted to have got him here."

"He is very quick, puts defenders under pressure, and is also a good finisher," he added.
