Blunt In Shock Move To Sutton

28th August, 2006

Sutton Town have pulled off one of the major signings of the season, by capturing Jason Blunt from Nationwide North side Scarborough.

The move sees Blunt reunited with Sutton boss Lee Wilson who was assistant manager during his Tamworth days.

The 29-year-old brings a host of experience to the Northern Counties East side.

Blunt played in the Premiership with Leeds and Italian Serie D football with Grottaglie before spells with Doncaster, Halifax, Tamworth and Scarborough.

The South Yorkshire-based player, a PE teacher at Wakefield Independent School, insisted that work commitments and a heavy training schedule at Scarborough had led to his stepping down the Non-League Pyramid.

"I've always insisted on high standards for myself and training four nights a week had become too big a commitment," he said.

"Along with my work as a teacher, it had become too much pressure.

"It will be the lowest standard I've played at, but I want to do my best for Lee Wilson and Sutton Town, but it will be without the pressure."

Blunt is the latest former Football League player to move to the Notts based club, joining former Mansfield midfielder Gary Castledine and ex-Hull star Simon Dakin.
