The Football Association have today removed Blackpool Mechanics from the FA Cup, with Armthorpe Welfare put back into the competition.

Mechanics had won the Extra Preliminary Round tie between the two sides, 2-0, on the 19th of August.

However, it emerged that the scorer of their second goal, Craig Worthington, should have been serving a suspension when the match was played.

At a hearing at Soho Square today, it was decided that forfeitting their place in the tournament would be adequate punishment and that no fine would be imposed on the North West Counties side.

The ?500 prize fund payment will be awarded to Armthorpe Welfare who now travel to Maine Road on Saturday in the Preliminary Round.

The Premier Division game between Welfare and Carlton Town scheduled for the weekend will now be played at a later date.
