Another Major Signing For Snipes

1st September, 2006

Ambitious Sutton Town have now snapped up former Kettering Town and Stevenage Borough hard-man Matt Fisher.

It comes a week after the Snipes signed experienced former Leeds, Halifax Town and Tamworth midfielder Jason Blunt from Nationwide North side Scarborough.

A quality left-sided midfield player who can also play in a central role, Fisher was in his fourth season with Nationwide North outfit Alfreton Town after joining from Tamworth in November 2003.

He represented the Marines and Royal Navy before moving into the non-League scene with Gedling Town, Ashfield United - the forerunners of the current Sutton club - and Kettering.

He left the Poppies, where he had been player of the year, to join Stevenage in the summer of 2001, moving to Tamworth in February 2003.

The two new signings show that Sutton are determined to make a move up the non-League Pyramid.

Also in their squad are goalkeeper Gavin Saxby, defender Dean Short, midfielder Gary Castledine, David Robinson and Lee Soar who have all played at a much higher level.
