More On Snipes Signings

2nd September, 2006

It has been revealed that Sutton Town paid out ?5,000 to secure the services of Matt Fisher.

The Fieldings club beat off opposition from Worksop Town, Ilkeston Town and Eastwood Town for the midfielder who joined from Alfreton Town in midweek.

They have also signed Eastwood Town striker Phil Bignall, who is well known from his time at Hucknall Town and Carlton Town.

"These are fantastic signings," said Sutton manager Lee Wilson.

"Matt Fisher is a local lad and lives just two minutes from the ground. He is a massive signing for both Sutton Town and the community.

"He had offers from elsewhere, but he saw our ambition and what we hope to achieve and decided to join us.

"Phil Bignall is big, powerful six foot plus player and he will score goals for us.

"We are building not just for this season, but for the future. These two players are very much part of our plans."

Sutton Director of football Mel Spencer insisted that the signings signalled the club's promotion aspirations.

"This type of investment demands promotion," he said.

"We are trying to get the best players available within our budget, but they must have the desire to play for Sutton Town Football club."
