Harvey Off To Barbados

3rd January, 2007

Retford United striker Neil Harvey is set to become the first player in the club's history to play an international game whilst at Cannon Park.

Harvey, 21, has been selected to play in the Digicel Caribbean Cup in Trinidad as he hopes to play in the three games in mid January 2007.

He will be flying out to join the squad in the next few days and should be back in time for the Badgers' FA Vase tie at Flixton on the 20th January 2007.

He will join his team-mates, including Aldershot's Louis Soares and Sheffield United's Paul Ifill, in preparation for the tournament's opening game against Trinidad and Tobago on the 12th of January.

Barbados then meet the winners of Group J (Bermuda, Dominican Republic or Haiti) on the 15th of January, before completing their group games against Martinique on the 17th of January.

Retford United had no hesitation to release Neil for the games and Club Chairman Dean Vivian said, "We could not stand in Neil's way to play for his country.

"This is a great opportunity for Neil to play some strong sides on an International level and we are proud that he has been selected for the squad."

Joint top scorer for the Badgers this season Neil is delighted to have been selected, and is relishing the prospect of swapping Retford's winter fixtures in the Northern Counties East League games for the sunshine in Trinidad.
