All Change At Hall Corner

17th January, 2007

Ambitious Premier Division side Glapwell have announced that a new consortium led by two local businessmen are to take over at the helm.

The changes will come into effect from 1st February, and although the identities of the new people have yet to be announced, the news has been welcomed by current chairman and secretary Roger and Ellen Caton.

Club commercial manager Kevin Gee confirmed in a statement at the weekend that the club have been approached by two local businessmen who, along with the backing of a number of other major investors, are to take control of the football club, to try to ensure that all the previous hard work done by Mr and Mrs Caton can continue.

They in turn will become life presidents, and will also continue in their current roles of general manager and secretary.

Mrs Caton said: "Glapwell Football Club have been a major part of both our lives and those of our families, and we are very proud of the way the football club has progressed and our achievements to date.

"Glapwell have held a high position in non-league football for a number of years now.

"However, although we both have as much enthusiasm now as when we first started, unfortunately we haven't quite got as much energy.

"I believe timing is very important at any football club, and therefore we feel that it is now time for younger bodies and new investment to ensure Glapwell's continuing success.

"These are very exciting times at the club, with phase one of our developments already in place, to be completed by the end of March, with new changing rooms and state-of-the-art physio room.

"Kevin is already speaking to the new investors to set a realistic target to start phase two on the ground which is to convert the football club into Glapwell Sports and Social Club, incorporating a gymnasium, fitness suite, indoor five-a-side and badminton courts, a modernised social bar, and hospitality area.

"My dream is that once finalised it will bring the whole community of Glapwell together and generate improved facilities for the health and well-being of everyone, both young and old," she added.
