Welfare Name New Assistant Boss

Armthorpe Welfare have announced that David Poppleton as their new assistant manager.
Poppleton began his career at Everton in 1995 at the young age of 15 where he won numerous youth honours including the FA Youth Cup in 1998. He competed in youth European tournaments and made around 60 reserve team appearances for the club.
Poppleton has represented England at under 16 and under 17 level alongside the likes of Michael Owen, Steven Gerrard, Wes Brown and many other now famous international players, winning several international tournaments along the way.
He joined Lincoln City in 1999 and made seven first team appearances before injury forced him to retire from the professional game in 2000 at only 20 years old. He played for three more years as a semi professional at Ilkeston Town (2000-2002) and Alfreton Town (2002-2003).
Throughout his playing career he has worked under coaches Keith Blunt, Don Howe and Howard Wilkinson at international level and Joe Royle, Willie Donachie, Howard Kendall, Adrian Heath, Walter Smith, Archie Knox and Ray Hall at Everton.
Poppleton is now a qualified coach and has completed the FA Level 1 and Level 2 coaching badges. He also holds the FA Youth Award Module 1, FA Emergency First Aid, and FA Safeguarding Children qualifications.
He is an FA Licensed Coaches Club Member and has ambitions to further his coaching experience and qualifications, starting with his FA Level 3 Coaching badge which will complete his UEFA B coaching licence.
A statement from the NCEL Premier Division club said: "Armthorpe Welfare would like to publicly welcome David to the club, we are very excited about the partnership he and manager Brian Johnston have formed and are sure that it will bring a much more successful campaign this coming season."
