Whittington Grabs 50th Goal for Parras
22nd December, 2013
Worksop Parramore forward Lee Whittington struck six times in Saturday's 8-0 home win over Glasshoughton Welfare to take his tally for the club to over fifty goals.
He joined the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division in the 2012/13 season from Maltby Main where he enjoyed a fantastic start to the campaign, grabbing nineteen goals quickly before suffering a broken cheekbone and eye socket against Pickering Town.
The club rallied around Lee and he was itching to get back to scoring ways not long after but his doctor had to hold him back for a while. However, once he returned, Whittington repaid the club with a further seven goals that season, taking his tally to 26, although he never quite got back to 100% fitness as the campaign was coming to a close.
This season under new management, Whittington was one of the few players that remained at the club. His value known to all at the club already but, with a new manager, he needed to prove that he could fit into the style that Russ Eagle wanted. An early niggling injury kept him out of the team for a few weeks at the start but he scored a few from the bench and worked his way into the team. Since then, he's been a revelation equalling his tally from last season already.
The 50th goal came with his fourth goal of the game against Glasshoughton and was a penalty. Lee was aware it was a milestone moment so the pressure was greater.
Whittington said of his 50th goal: "I feel proud. It's a great achievement. I love scoring goals but winning is the most important thing for us and I always play for the team. We just need to keep chipping away at it and I'm sure we'll be challenging come the end of the season."
A spokesperson from the club said: "Lee Whittington has been a great servant to the club and all the staff from the manager, chairman, secretaries and coaches, etc... would like to congratulate him on his 50th goal. We expect the 100th next season!"
