Swans unveil new management team

10th May, 2021

Barton Town have announced the appointment of ex-Grimsby Town professional Nathan Jarman as their new manager with Danny North, another former Mariner, coming in as his assistant.

The Swans had been looking for a new boss following the departure of Rob Watson last month due to increased work commitments.

Jarman (pictured left) has years of professional experience behind him, playing for the likes of Barnsley, Chester and, most notably, Grimsby Town.

He spent three years at Gainsborough Trinity, making over 100 appearances while some may remember him from his spell at North Ferriby United, in which he scored 31 goals in 74 games for the Villagers.

His only recent management experience is a caretaker spell at Gainsborough Trinity in 2018, as well as being assistant to Steve Housham at Lincoln United over the 2019/20 season.

North is welcomed back to the Easy Buy Stadium after a brief spell with the club under Craig Denton in 2020, when he scored five goals in eleven appearances for the Swans, and he now comes back as Jarman’s assistant for the 2021/22 campaign.

He is another ex-professional who played for Grimsby Town, scoring seventeen goals in 81 games, before he made his name in Ireland, playing for St Patricks, Sligo Rovers and Shamrock Rovers.

Jarman spoke about his appointment, his relationship with North, and his plans for the season ahead, telling the club's website: "I'm delighted to have been appointed as manager after having a few meetings with the directors and then a few meetings with the chairman.

"I've known Northy since we were about 20, 21, and we've always had a good relationship, so I think we'll be a good partnership. He'll be involved on the playing side too but not as much.

"In terms of players we want to build on those we currently have at the club. Some were brought in under Dents (Craig Denton) and then Rob (Watson) brought some in.

"We won't be discarding anyone; we're not telling them they aren't wanted. I'll want to see them in training and get an opinion myself and then go from there really.

"The chairman and directors want progression as a club, and I want to win. I want us to win at all costs and win as many as we can.

"We're going to aim as high as possible. Fans can expect our playing style to mirror my traits as a player - hard working, aggressive, win at all costs.

"We'll be well prepared and work on formations and set pieces."

Swans manager search after Watson's departure

15th April, 2021

Barton Town are inviting applications to become their next manager after Rob Watson stepped down from the role with immediate effect due to increased work commitments.

A statement released by the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division said: "Having taken on a new role at work, Rob wouldn’t be able to commit the time to the club that it deserves.

"Therefore, he leaves us after just over a year in the job, with the COVID-19 pandemic meaning he only managed fourteen competitive games for the club.

"Rob joined the club in September 2019 as Craig Denton’s assistant and, when Craig left in March 2020, Rob stepped in and took over.

"He put his squad together and steered the Swans to a ninth place finish in the curtailed NCEL Premier Division season.

"Highlights of his tenure in charge include a 3-1 comeback win away at Spalding United in the FA Cup, and another fightback from 2-0 down at home to Staveley Miners Welfare in the pouring rain.

"We thank Rob for all his time and effort with the club and wish him all the best in his job and in the future."

Anyone interested in the vacant role are asked, in the first instance, to send their application, which must include an up-to-date CV should to club secretary Peter Mitchell at bartontown@gmail.com, or contact him on 07927 623932 for further information.

The closing date is Friday 23rd April, 2021, and all correspondence will be treated in the strictest confidence.
