Long-serving manager steps down at South Leeds

23rd January, 2025

South Leeds have announced that the manager that has guided them all the way from Sunday League football to the NCEL since the club's inception in 2017 has stepped down.

The unexpected announcement by the Division One side was made on Wednesday night, saying: "It is with great sadness that we have to announce that we have received the resignation of first team manager Reece Mudd who will step down from his role as manager of the club with immediate effect.

"8 seasons, 6 promotions, 11 trophies.

"From Sunday League to Semi-Professional.

"No words can describe what this man has done for this football club. The loyalty, the commitment and what he means to everyone involved at South Leeds.

"The true meaning of a legend. His story and reign on this football club will never be forgotten.

"Thank you for everything Gaffer and good luck on whatever is next for you."

Mudd, who will remain on at the club as chairman and secretary, leaves the management side of things with South Leeds in a very healthy sixth spot in the table, just three points away from the play-off zone.

The club have announced that Danny Chadwick will take over and become the new first team manager for the remainder of the season with Liam Mudd moving up from his coaching role to assist him.

A statement described Chadwick as "an individual who has been an integral part of the club's rise both on the pitch as a player and in his transition into management and knows exactly what it means to be part of this club.

"Get behind this man and the boys as we continue to push for more success this season and we look forward to seeing him in his new role on Saturday!

"We would just like to assure everybody and the community who support us that nothing has changed behind the scenes with the running of the club and everyone remains in their positions on the board."

Chadwick's first game in charge will be a home league game against Selby Town this weekend.
