Toolstation NCEL match review 2014/15 #25
3rd November, 2014
Attention returned to the FA Carlsberg Vase at the weekend with seven Toolstation NCEL sides booking their place in the Second Round whilst two more will be hoping to join them in replays this week.
The most convincing victory came from Cleethorpes Town who won 5-1 at Southam United, Marc Cooper grabbing two of their goals, whilst Barton Town Old Boys also netted five at Bootle, Ashley Lattimore and Scott Phillips with a brace each as they prevailed 5-2.
Shaw Lane Aquaforce progressed with a 4-1 home win over Runcorn Linnets in the only game played on Sunday, Lee Morris setting them on their way early on before goals from Shane Kelsey and James Eyles in the second half and an injury time own goal from River Humphreys ensured they would be in the hat for the next round.
Dronfield Town also won on their own patch but they needed a stoppage-time winner from Christian Savage to go through, 2-1, at the expense of Chadderton.
AFC Mansfield, Worksop Town and Tadcaster Albion were all triumphant on their travels with Ashley Grayson's first half strike and a Carl Haslam penalty near the hour mark seeing Mansfield through 2-0 at Gedling Miners Welfare.
Tom Elliott, Andre Johnson and Chris Whincop scored for Worksop in their 3-0 victory at Long Eaton United and Josh Greening's eighteenth goal of the season proved to be the vital one for Tadcaster as they defeated Winsford United, 3-2.
Heanor Town will host AFC Wulfrunians on Tuesday night after their 0-0 draw and Bottesford Town travel to Ryhope Colliery Welfare on the same evening after they were held 1-1.
The Vase trail, however, ended with defeats for AFC Emley, Handsworth Parramore, Selby Town, Winterton Rangers and Yorkshire Amateur.
In the Premier Division, Staveley Miners Welfare were the only top eight side with a league game and they took advantage to continue their fine form with a last-gasp 2-1 win at Garforth Town to tighten their grip on fifth place.
Tawanda Rupere had seemingly given the hosts the victory with his goal on 85 minutes but Sam Findlaw and then Jahmal Smith both struck in stoppage time to turn the game on its head.
The battle to avoid relegation continues to hot up as well with vital wins for Armthorpe Welfare and Retford United against fellow strugglers to move them out of the bottom two.
A Stuart Preston double helped Armthorpe to a 3-2 home victory over Glasshoughton Welfare who now drop to the foot of the table as a result of their defeat whilst a Joe Walton own goal fourteen minutes from time saw Retford climb above their visitors Nostell Miners Welfare with a 1-0 win.
Pickering Town snatched a point at Athersley Recreation with Chris Batchelor's injury time strike claiming a 3-3 draw and there were 3-1 away wins for Albion Sports at Parkgate and for Bridlington Town at Thackley.
And, Liversedge were 4-2 victors at home to Maltby Main to move them up into thirteenth.
Second-placed Clipstone are now level with Division One leaders AFC Emley on goal difference after a 4-0 victory at Rossington Main with two each for Jamie Smith and Daniel Wood.
But, the game was overshadowed by a serious injury to Main player Calum Coburn which suspended proceedings for over an hour whilst he received treatment and then was taken to hospital.
Eccleshill United are up into third after a convincing 4-0 win at Lincoln Moorlands Railway, Doug Stevenson opening the scoring before a Matt Burrus penalty and a Steve Rivera strike had the Eagles well ahead by the interval.
A Dominic Sibiski own goal completed the scoring just after the hour mark.
Eccleshill replace Pontefract Collieries in the table who were beaten 3-1 at home by fifth-placed Hemsworth Miners Welfare and a Lewis Dickinson brace ensured Penistone Church a victory by the same scoreline at home to Knaresborough Town to keep within touching distance in sixth.
A couple of Danny Stevens penalties helped Louth Town to a 3-1 defeat of hosts Hallam to climb into seventh and the fourth 3-1 scoreline of the day came in favour of Hall Road Rangers at home to bottom side Grimsby Borough.
And, Teversal's upturn in results continued with a 1-0 victory at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, Mark Parkes with the decider on 56 minutes, to move them up into twelfth position.
