Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2014/15 #38
21st December, 2014
Tadcaster Albion will spend Christmas seven points clear at the top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division table after a 3-0 home victory over another side who have an eye on the title, Heanor Town.
The triumph came courtesy of a first half goal from Callum Ward and second half strikes from Carl Stewart and Josh Greening, and it was the Brewers' tenth win at home in the league whilst the visitors drop to fifth, eleven points away from the summit.
Second-placed Worksop Town's match at Athersley Recreation was postponed due to an unfit pitch and Staveley Miners Welfare have moved up to third following their tenth straight win in the Premier Division.
Jahmal Smith scored two of their goals in a 5-0 home win over Retford United who are nervously looking over their shoulder at the relegation zone.
Shaw Lane Aquaforce fall to fourth as they drew 2-2 at ninth-placed Handsworth Parramore, Matt Thornhill making sure the visitors got a point with his 70th minute equaliser.
Bridlington Town, Cleethorpes Town and Barton Town Old Boys all won to stay sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
Bridlington were 4-2 winners at Maltby Main whilst Jonathan Oglesby's 51st minute strike was the only goal of the game in Cleethorpes' trip to Garforth Town and Barton defeated visitors Nostell Miners Welfare, 2-1, with Alex Sherwood and Scott Phillips getting the Swans' goals in the opening half-hour.
Nostell have returned to the foot of the table after Glasshoughton Welfare's 2-1 home victory against Liversedge, coming from behind with strikes from Jimmy Dyson and Kingsley Wetherald to earn three vital points.
Armthorpe Welfare remain just above the trapdoor after their 3-0 home loss to Albion Sports and Parkgate stay seventeenth as they went down by the same scoreline at Pickering Town, Billy Logan getting two of the Pikes' goals.
The chasing pack in Division One were given a big boost as both the top two sides were beaten at home.
Leaders AFC Emley went down 3-1 to Yorkshire Amateur, Joel Hughes and Tom Marsden netting for the visitors in the final eleven minutes to claim the win, whilst a Steve Brammer penalty and a winner from Jake Wright saw an ever-improving Hallam win 2-1 at Clipstone.
Bottesford Town, Louth Town, Shirebrook Town and Pontefract Collieries all took advantage to close the gap in the promotion chase.
A 4-1 home win for Bottesford over Teversal, with goals in the last quarter-of-an-hour from Terry Barwick and Jack Cross confirming the victory, moved them up into third above Hemsworth Miners Welfare whose match at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic was postponed.
Louth won 3-0 at home to Rossington Main to stay fifth ahead of Shirebrook who defeated hosts Lincoln Moorlands Railway, 2-0, and Mark Whitehouse struck ten minutes from time as Pontefract beat visitors Eccleshill United by a single goal.
A Tristam Whitman brace helped AFC Mansfield overcome strugglers Winterton Rangers, 3-0, to climb into eighth spot.
Winterton are now in the bottom two, replacing Dronfield Town who won 6-2 at basement side Grimsby Borough and it looks bleak for Borough who are ten points away from safety.
Hall Road Rangers won 2-0 at Penistone Church whilst the spoils were shared at Manse Lane with a 1-1 draw between Knaresborough Town and Selby Town.
In the two games in midweek, Shaw Lane Aquaforce became the fifth NCEL side to reach the FA Vase Fourth Round after a 3-2 victory over Shildon in a match that was played at Barnsley's Oakwell ground.
They fell behind in the first minute but Stefan Holt's double had them ahead by the interval and Shane Kelsey's third on 65 minutes made sure of the victory despite a late consolation from the Northern League visitors.
And, there was County Cup joy for Athersley Recreation as they beat Sheffield 4-2 on penalties after their Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup Second Round match finished 2-2 with Ryan White getting a last gasp equaliser at Sheerien Park.
