Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2014/15 #45
25th January, 2015
There will be at least one Toolstation NCEL team in the Quarter-Finals of this year's FA Vase after AFC Mansfield booked their place in the last sixteen on another Saturday where the fixture list was hit by bad weather.
The Bulls stampeded past their hosts Chadderton, 5-0, to book a home tie with Premier Division leaders Tadcaster Albion in the Fifth Round in a fortnight's time.
Chris Timons and Ryan Williams gave them a two goal lead by the break and then a Craig Mitchell brace and a fifth from Jordan Vilums completed the rout.
Worksop Town will not be joining them at the next stage, however, as they went down 1-0 at home to Glossop North End, the only goal of the game coming in extra-time.
Shaw Lane Aquaforce's replay at home to Walsall Wood fell victim to the weather and they will now look to get it played on Tuesday evening.
Tadcaster, meanwhile, strengthened their grip on top spot in the league with a 2-0 victory at relegation-threatened Glasshoughton Welfare, Callum Ward opening the scoring just before the interval and then David Brown grabbed a late second.
The Brewers were the only top five side to play in the Premier Division and they are now eight points clear of nearest rivals Cleethorpes Town having played a game more.
Bridlington Town withheld a late Athersley Recreation comeback to win 3-2 and consolidate sixth spot, Will Waudby, Chris Adams and an Ashley Allanson penalty putting them firmly in control before goals in the last ten minutes from Josh Moore and Daniel Joynes made it a lot tighter than expected.
A hat-trick from Joe Lumsden and a Stuart Preston double saw Armthorpe Welfare move out of the bottom three with a 5-1 win at the side they leapfrog over, Retford United.
There were also three goals for Nick McNally as Thackley won 4-1 at home to Maltby Main whilst Arran Basi's 79th minute winner saw Albion Sports triumph 3-2 at Pickering Town and there was a 1-1 draw for Liversedge at Parkgate.
The Division One title chase has been blown wide open as leaders AFC Emley's defeat at home to rivals Clipstone means that only six points separate the top seven sides.
Daniel Wood and Jamie Smith scored for Clipstone in a 2-1 victory, their goals sandwiching a first-half stoppage time penalty by Ashley Flynn, and the Cobras are now three points from their hosts with four games in hand.
Wins for Pontefract Collieries, Shirebrook Town and Bottesford Town have also given their title and promotion ambitions a major boost.
Andrew Catton, Luke Forgione and Mark Whitehouse all netted in the first-half for third-placed Ponte at Selby Town whilst Jack Barnett scored in his first game from his return from Worksop Town to help Shirebrook climb into fifth with a 4-2 home victory over Rossington Main.
Bottesford survived an early scare which saw their bottom placed hosts Grimsby Borough race into a 2-0 lead in the opening ten minutes to win 3-2 with Danny Boulton getting what proved to be the winner on the hour mark.
A 1-1 draw at home to Eccleshill United moved Winterton Rangers out of the bottom three and they are replaced by Lincoln Moorlands Railway who were beaten 3-0 at Teversal.
And, Paul Morrill's penalty midway through the second half secured Hall Road Rangers a 2-1 win at home to Louth Town.
Meanwhile, only one game managed to survive the deep freeze in midweek and it saw Winterton Rangers bow out of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy, going down 4-1 at Evo-Stik League side Brigg Town with Luke Anderson getting their goal in the Quarter-Final tie.
