Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2014/15 #49
8th February, 2015
The Toolstation NCEL will have two sides in the last eight of the FA Vase for the first time in twelve years after Tadcaster Albion and Shaw Lane Aquaforce won their Fifth Round ties on Saturday.
Tadcaster overcame league rivals AFC Mansfield, 3-0, at the Forest Town Arena whilst Shaw Lane were 3-2 winners at home to Hellenic League side Flackwell Heath.
Josh Barrett put Tadcaster ahead on seventeen minutes and the Premier Division leaders were further boosted when their Division One hosts were reduced to ten men with the sending-off of influential player Ryan Williams and boss Rudy Funk was also sent to the stands.
Josh Greening made it 2-0 in first-half stoppage time and George Bissett added a third before the Brewers ended the game with nine men when Paddy Miller was red carded and Nick Thompson left the field injured with Tadcaster already having used all their substitutes.
Shaw Lane, meanwhile, took an early lead through Matt Thornhill but were pegged back in the 36th minute and went behind in the opening stages of the second period.
However, two goals in three minutes from Joe Thornton and Lee Morriss saw them turn the game around and they will join Tadcaster in the draw for the Sixth Round which takes place on Monday.
In the Premier Division, Cleethorpes Town closed the gap on Tadcaster at the top of the table to five points with a 2-0 victory at Parkgate, Matthew Kingston and Jonathan Oglesby with the goals.
And, Ellis Wall's winner four minutes from time saw Staveley Miners Welfare strengthen their grip on fifth spot as they won 2-1 at Thackley.
A Luke Fletcher brace helped Handsworth Parramore to a 5-1 home win over Maltby Main that saw them keep hold of seventh spot, ahead of Heanor Town who moved up into eighth by beating visitors Liversedge, 3-1, Nathan Benger's third confirming the victory with nine minutes remaining.
Nostell Miners Welfare are off the bottom of the table as Rob Boardman's strike on the hour mark saw them win 1-0 at home to Athersley Recreation.
Replacing them in the basement are Glasshoughton Welfare who were defeated 4-1 at home by Pickering Town with the visitors netting two in the last five minutes through Billy Logan and Andrew Simpson to consolidate their win.
Retford United will continue to look nervously over their shoulder at the bottom two as they are only three points clear following an 8-0 home defeat to Albion Sports, Matthew Mathers getting a hat-trick for the Lions.
And, the spoils were shared in the day's other Premier Division match as Armthorpe Welfare picked up a point in a 1-1 draw at Garforth Town.
Only five Division One matches went ahead with leaders AFC Emley stretching their advantage at the summit to four points as Steve Kenworthy's hat-trick claimed a 3-0 home victory over Knaresborough Town.
Clipstone lost a little ground but moved up into fourth with a 1-1 draw at Bottesford Town with both goals coming from the penalty spot, Robert Paling's first-half strike for the visitors cancelled out in the second period by Danny Boulton.
There was also parity at Louth Town who drew 1-1 at home to Winterton Rangers and between Selby Town and Eccleshill United who shared four goals.
And, Penistone Church conceded in the first 55 seconds at Teversal but went on to win 6-2 with Ashley Ellis and Lewis Dickinson getting two each whilst Mark Robinson got both of the home side's goals.
