Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2014/15 #51
15th February, 2015
Tadcaster Albion's lead at the top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division has been cut to three points after the Brewers were held to a 3-3 draw at home by Handsworth Parramore on Saturday.
It could have been worse for the leaders as they found themselves two goals down by the 55th minute through strikes from Bruno Holden and Luke Fletcher and, although George Bissett pulled one back, they were 3-1 behind with ten minutes to go as Sam Smith found the net for the visitors.
But, Josh Greening and Denny Ingram struck to share the spoils to claim a point that could prove vital in the final reckoning.
The chasing pack all took advantage of Tadcaster's slight slip-up with the three other top four sides all winning.
Second-placed Cleethorpes Town beat visitors Retford United, 6-0, with Liam Dickens getting two of their goals.
A hat-trick from Lee Morris saw Shaw Lane Aquaforce to a 3-1 victory at Armthorpe Welfare whilst Worksop Town were comfortable 4-0 home winners over Parkgate with a Connor Sellars penalty and a Phil Roe strike confirming the three points in the second period.
Staveley Miners Welfare lost a little ground in fifth as they went down 2-1 at Heanor Town, Sam Jones with the winner with five minutes remaining for the hosts who move up to seventh just behind Bridlington Town who were 3-1 home victors over Liversedge, all three of the Seasiders' goals coming in the opening half-hour.
In the battle to avoid relegation, basement side Glasshoughton Welfare were beaten 4-2 at Athersley Recreation, Daniel Joynes with three of the goals for the hosts whilst Nostell Miners Welfare moved above Retford and out of the bottom two with a 6-1 home win over Garforth Town, a Rob Bordman hat-trick helping them to continue their recent fine run of form.
And, there were away wins for Barton Town Old Boys and Thackley, 2-1 at Maltby Main and 3-1 at Pickering Town, respectively.
A hat-trick from Ashley Flynn and two each for Michael Tunnacliffe and Reuben Jerome helped Division One leaders AFC Emley to the biggest win of the day, 8-0 at home to Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
Pontefract Collieries are now their nearest title challengers, one point behind after they won 4-0 at home to Teversal, Liam Radford, Andrew Catton and Aaron Moxam putting them in control by the half-hour mark before a late fourth from Philip Lindley.
Glyn Cotton, Craig Mitchell and Tristram Whitman fired AFC Mansfield up into third with a 3-0 home victory over Yorkshire Amateur ahead of Hemsworth Miners Welfare who dropped two places to fourth following their 0-0 home draw with Bottesford Town.
Clipstone and Shirebrook Town both won to stay five points away from the summit in fifth and sixth, Clipstone recovering from conceding two early goals to win 4-2 at home to Louth Town and Shirebrook beating hosts Winterton Rangers, 3-0.
Grimsby Borough are now fourteen points adrift at the foot of the table after their 1-0 loss at Knaresborough Town with Dronfield Town moving out of the drop zone at the expense of Lincoln Moorlands Railway thanks to a 0-0 draw at Penistone Church.
Steve Brammer netted two penalties for Hallam in their 4-2 home win over Rossington Main and they climb up into fourteenth in the table whilst it was a 1-1 draw between Worsbrough Bridge Athletic and Eccleshill United.
