Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2014/15 #53
22nd February, 2015
Tadcaster Albion extended their lead at the top of the Premier Division whilst Pontefract Collieries are the new leaders of Division One after a full programme of Toolstation NCEL matches on Saturday.
An injury-time penalty from Callum Ward snatched all three points for Tadcaster in a 3-2 win at Maltby Main in a game where the Brewers had twice been behind.
Brian Cusworth and Sam Forster netted for Main only for Lewis Clarkson and Daniel Gray to restore parity and it could be a victory that will prove vital in Tadcaster's title challenge.
Cleethorpes Town began the day in second spot but were beaten 6-0 at Heanor Town to be overtaken by Worksop Town who won by the same scoreline at relegation-threatened Retford United.
Jay Cooper got a hat-trick for Heanor whilst Conor Higginson equalled that feat for Worksop who remain six points behind the leaders but with two games in hand and a superior goal difference.
A Lee Morris brace saw Shaw Lane Aquaforce to a 3-1 victory at nineteenth-placed Nostell Miners Welfare to strengthen their grip on fourth position ahead of Staveley Miners Welfare who drew 1-1 at Handsworth Parramore, a stoppage time strike from Bruno Holden rescuing a point for the home side.
Bridlington Town remain sixth after their 3-1 win at home to Parkgate, Lewis Poucher confirming the points with an injury-time third for the Seasiders, whilst Barton Town Old Boys stay seventh following a 2-0 victory over visitors Pickering Town, Danny Chambers and Scott Phillips getting on the scoresheet for the Swans.
Armthorpe Welfare gave themselves some breathing space in the fight to avoid the drop as they were the only side in the bottom seven to win, 3-2 at Liversedge with Rich Smith getting two of their goals, and they are now seven points clear of the relegation zone.
A late double from Sam Jones helped Garforth Town to a 3-1 win at basement side Glasshoughton Welfare whilst Thackley enjoyed a comfortable afternoon with a 5-1 home victory over Athersley Recreation, Ryan Farrell with two of their goals.
Pontefract stormed to the summit of Division One as they thrashed hosts Dronfield Town, 8-0, with their hosts dropping into the bottom two.
There were four goals for Aaron Moxam and a four-minute hat-trick late on for Craig Rouse amongst the Colls haul.
AFC Emley dropped from the top as they were held 1-1 at home by promotion rivals AFC Mansfield, Craig Mitchell cancelling out Max Leonard's early opener for the home side.
Hemsworth Miners Welfare are up to third after Adam Wilson and Nicholas Guest struck in the last three minutes to claim a vital 2-1 win at another side going for promotion, Clipstone.
A brace from Lewis Chambers also kept Shirebrook Town in the hunt with a 4-2 victory at Louth Town to maintain sixth spot but they have played more games than the sides above them.
Lincoln Moorlands Railway hauled themselves out of the relegation zone after a 1-1 draw at bottom side Grimsby Borough, Tom Parker's goal on the hour levelling after Gareth Flint had given the hosts a fourth minute lead.
Lee Holmes struck twice in Rossington Main's 3-0 win at Teversal whilst Hallam beat visitors Eccleshill United, 2-1, Selby Town won 2-0 at home to Winterton Rangers and there was a 2-2 draw for Penistone Church at Yorkshire Amateur.
And, rarely for Division One, there were two goalless games, for Bottesford Town at home to Knaresborough Town and for Worsbrough Bridge Athletic at Hall Road Rangers.
