Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2014/15 #56
5th March, 2015
The Toolstation NCEL Premier Division title race has taken another twist with leaders Tadcaster Albion beaten at home in midweek.
The Brewers were always going to have a tough task against a Thackley side that has been in great form recently and so it proved as the visitors came from behind to win 2-1.
Andrew Milne gave Tadcaster a 26th minute lead but that was cancelled out just before half-time by Thomas Dugdale and Ryan Farrell got what proved to be the winner midway through the second period.
Two of the chasing pack, Worksop Town and Cleethorpes Town, won to close the gap to the top to one and two points, respectively.
Worksop won 4-0 at Liversedge, a Connor Sellars brace added to by strikes from Conor Higginson and Sam Liversidge whilst an early goal from Brody Robertson saw Cleethorpes prevail, 1-0 at Albion Sports.
Fifth-placed Staveley Miners Welfare kept themselves within an outside chance of a title challenge with a 3-2 home win over Barton Town Old Boys but they needed an injury-time winner from Ellis Wall to take all three points.
A brace from Joe Lumsden eased Armthorpe Welfare's relegation fears as they won 3-1 at home to Parkgate whilst Billy Logan struck twice to earn Pickering Town a 3-2 victory over visitors Nostell Miners Welfare who got both of their goals in the last four minutes.
In Division One, a late strike from Wayne Graves gave Bottesford Town a 1-0 home win against Louth Town and, although they are in seventh spot, they are only four points adrift of the top two in what is the tightest promotion challenge for years.
Dane Mortimer's double in the final quarter of Selby Town's match at Rossington Main gave them a 3-1 triumph whilst Winterton Rangers won 2-1 at home to fellow strugglers Lincoln Moorlands Railway, Josh Batty with what turned out to be the winner on 68 minutes.
And, goals from James Voissey and Josh Rosenstrauch saw Eccleshill United claim a 2-0 home victory over Hall Road Rangers.
The final two places in the League Cup Fifth Round were confirmed with Hallam and Clipstone both making their way into the last eight.
Elliott Simpson's 35th minute goal saw Hallam through, 1-0 at home to Garforth Town, and it was a 2-0 victory at Pontefract Collieries for Clipstone with Corey Vickers and Matty Ord getting on the scoresheet.
In the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup, Maltby Main prevailed in their home Quarter-Final at home to NCEL rivals Athersley Recreation despite being pegged back to 2-2 having taken an early lead through a couple of Louis Plenty goals.
Brian Cusworth struck the winner with ten minutes remaining after Ryan White's goal and a penalty from Kieron Scargill had drawn the game level.
And, Retford United won 2-1 at home to former NCEL side Brodsworth Welfare in a friendly, Brett Lucas and Liam Wilkin with the goals.
