Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2014/15 #58

12th March, 2015

Worksop Town are now five points clear at the top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division after their 2-1 home win over Albion Sports in midweek.

The Tigers went behind through a Daniel Facey goal on 23 minutes but Chris Adam levelled before half-time and Chris Whincop grabbed the winner with nine minutes remaining in the game.

Second-placed Tadcaster Albion, meanwhile, fell to their second defeat in a row as they were beaten 3-2 at Barton Town Old Boys.

Scott Phillips' early opener gave Barton the lead with Liam Ormsby restoring parity from the penalty spot just after the hour mark but Danny Chambers restored the Swans' advantage in the 48th minute.

Tadcaster looked to have taken a point when Andrew Milne made it 2-2 late on but there was still time for Phillips to convert a spot kick of his own for his second on the night and 31st for the season to give the hosts all three points.

Fourth-placed Shaw Lane Aquaforce still ensured that their title chase is in their own hands as they won 3-1 at Pickering Town to stay ten points off the top but with five more games to play than Worksop.

Matt Thornhill and Lee Morris got them the win after Pickering's Sam Calvert had cancelled out an opening minute strike from Chris White for the Ducks.

Staveley Miners Welfare, Bridlington Town and Heanor Town also all won to ensure the top eight remained as-you-were, positions wise.

Two goals each for Kurtis Morley and Lee Whittington saw Staveley beat basement hosts Glasshoughton Welfare, 4-1, Tom Fleming's second-half winner saw Bridlington prevail 2-1 at home to Garforth Town and early strikes from Jay Cooper and Sean Gregory ensured a 2-1 home victory for Heanor over Armthorpe Welfare.

Next-to-bottom Retford United are now six points adrift of safety after they were beaten 6-1 at Parkgate and the two sides immediately above them picked up points.

Scott Preece struck a hat-trick to put the Badgers deeper in trouble whilst two last-gasp Eli Hey goals saw Liversedge draw 3-3 at home to Athersley Recreation and a Dave Bordman brace gave Nostell Miners Welfare a priceless 2-1 home victory over Handsworth Parramore.

The top three sides in Division One all won in midweek as the title and promotion chase continues to hot up.

Max Leanord's double was added to by a Paul Sykes penalty and a Doran Jordan strike for AFC Emley in their 4-0 win at home to relegation-haunted Grimsby Borough to keep them a point ahead of Pontefract Collieries who beat fourth-placed Shirebrook Town, 3-1, Aaron Moxam with a couple of goals for the Colls.

Clipstone stay a further two points back in third but with games in hand after Jamie Smith's thirteenth minute goal secured a 1-0 victory over visitors Eccleshill United.

AFC Mansfield, like Shirebrook, lost ground in fifth as they were beaten 3-2 at Hallam, a Michael Blythen brace helping the fourteenth-placed hosts to the win.

Yorkshire Amateur move up into eighth after a 5-4 home win over next-to-bottom Lincoln Moorlands Railway with Joel Hughes getting a hat-trick for the hosts whilst Josh Schofield also struck three in the last twenty minutes for the visitors as they looked to stage a remarkable comeback.

Winterton Rangers stay just above the relegation places following their 3-0 loss at Hall Road Rangers and managerless Teversal drop into the bottom four as a Mark Fereday hat-trick helped Dronfield Town to a 3-1 home win which moves them above their visitors in the table.

And, the match between Worsbrough Bridge Athletic and Hemsworth Miners Welfare was abandoned due to floodlight failure after ten minutes with the game scoreless.
