Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2014/15 #61
22nd March, 2015
Worksop Town remain six points clear at the top of the Premier Division whilst Division One leaders AFC Emley have a three point cushion after another Saturday of dramatic action in the Toolstation NCEL.
Worksop won 4-2 at Nostell Miners Welfare in a game which saw three players sent off for the home side whilst the game was held up for fifty minutes following an injury to Tigers skipper Jake Scott.
Matthew Johnson was first to receive his marching orders on 21 minutes but the ten-man hosts went ahead on 34 minutes through Rob Bordman before Dave Bordman was then sent off following an aerial challenge with Scott.
Ross Henshaw levelled for Worksop early in the second period only for James Kitson to restore Nostell's advantage but Andrew Ofosu claimed the visitors' second equaliser and their numerical superiority started to count as Conor Higginson and Tom Elliott gave them a two goal lead going into the final ten minutes.
Nostell were then reduced to eight men when Adam Clayton was given a second yellow card.
Second-placed Cleethorpes Town had a less eventful afternoon to stay in touch with the leaders as they won 5-0 at basement side Glasshoughton Welfare but Tadcaster Albion lost more ground in third spot as their stuttering form continued with a 1-1 home draw against Athersley Recreation.
Josh Greening had put the Brewers ahead towards the end of the first half but Daniel Joynes grabbed an equaliser in the 84th minute to leave Tadcaster ten points off the top.
Shaw Lane Aquaforce were 3-0 winners at Heanor Town - Shane Kelsey, Lee Morris and Andrew Fox with the goals - to ensure that they can still overturn Worksop should they win five of their six games in hand.
The only movement in the top half of the table saw Bridlington Town climb up into fifth after Eddy Birch and Tom Fleming struck in a 2-0 win at Liversedge, going above Staveley Miners Welfare who were beaten 3-2 at home by Pickering Town.
Relegation-threatened Retford United remain six points away from safety as they went down 2-0 at Barton Town Old Boys on a day where Maltby Main's 4-1 loss at home to Parkgate, led by an Oliver Graham hat-trick for the visitors, meant that all the bottom five sides lost.
And, there were doubles for Daniel Facey and Matthew Mathers as Albion Sports picked up the division's biggest score, 6-0 at Thackley.
Emley took advantage of slip-up by the nearest title challengers in Division One to put a bit of daylight between themselves and the rest with a 2-1 home victory over Eccleshill United, Ashley Flynn and Max Leonard with the goals soon after a Marcus Edwards penalty had given the visitors a fourteenth minute lead.
Second-placed Pontefract Collieries drew 1-1 at Bottesford Town, who stay sixth, Craig Bridge putting the hosts ahead early on before Luke Danville shared the spoils on the hour.
Clipstone are now five points away from the top in third as a late Andrew Ring goal saw them go down 1-0 at home to Penistone Church.
Shirebrook Town kept their promotion hopes alive in fourth spot with a 7-2 victory at local rivals Teversal, Liam Morris with a hat-trick for Julian Watts' side whilst their hosts continue to hover just above the relegation trapdoor.
A brace from Dominic Blair saw Hemsworth Miners Welfare triumph 2-1 at home to AFC Mansfield to keep themselves in the hunt for top two finish whilst the visitors may now have too much to do, ten points behind the promotion spots with seven games to play.
The two sides in the drop zone, Grimsby Borough and Lincoln Moorlands Railway, both lost with Borough still looking for their second win of the season after their 1-0 home defeat to Rossington Main and Moorlands were beaten 5-0 at Knaresborough Town, Mitchell Hamilton with a hat-trick for the hosts.
Jamie Coulson netted four in Louth Town's 5-0 home victory over Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, Selby Town were 3-0 victors at Hallam and Winterton Rangers won 1-0 at Dronfield Town to move nine points away from the bottom two.
