Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2018/19 #4

17th August, 2018

Worksop Town became the fourteenth Toolstation NCEL side to reach the Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup but Barton Town and Hemsworth Miners Welfare were unable to join them in midweek replays.

Worksop fans had to endure a second dramatic encounter with Shepshed Dynamo as Saturday's 3-3 draw at the King of Soho Stadium was followed by a 5-4 extra-time win for the Tigers in Leicestershire on Tuesday night.

Kyle Jordan's opener was cancelled out before half-time and what looked to be a winner from Tomas Poole on 72 minutes suffered the same fate as the hosts forced a further thirty minutes with their second deep in stoppage time.

Worksop were then pegged back a third time after Steven Wankiewicz's goal had given them the lead once more before a Mark Simpson brace made it 5-3 only for Shepshed to keep the drama going by halving the deficit with five minutes remaining.

But, Craig Denton's side held on for the win and book themselves a home clash with Carlton Town at the next stage later this month.

Barton would have thought they would be following in Worksop's footsteps when they were 3-0 up after 36 minutes at home to Clipstone on the same night.

William Waudby, Gareth Barlow and Donald Chimalilo claimed the Swans' goals but their visitors fought back in spectacular fashion, bringing it back to 3-3 with fourteen minutes to go before snatching a winner to send the former NCEL side through.

Hemsworth, meanwhile, bowed out on Wednesday night with an early goal from Runcorn Town enough to separate the sides in a 1-0 victory for the hosts.

Elsewhere, there were seven games in the Premier Division with Liversedge and Knaresborough Town making it two wins out of two for their league campaigns so far.

Joe Walton netted twice as Sedge won 4-2 at Garforth Town whilst Colin Heath and Benjamin Cohen were on the scoresheet for Knaresborough in their 2-1 home victory over Goole AFC, Cohen's winner coming just two minutes after Max Tweddle had equalised for the Vikings on 84.

Yorkshire Amateur are the other side on six points after Franck Zalo and Brice Tiani earned them a 2-0 win over visitors Staveley Miners Welfare to make it two victories out of three.

Garforth and Goole are without a point from their opening two games, alongside Harrogate Railway Athletic and Athersley Recreation who were also beaten in midweek.

A Fraser Hansen penalty eight minutes from time saw the Rail beaten 2-1 at home by Hall Road Rangers whilst the Rec suffered the same scoreline on their own patch, Jake Thompson's 64th minute strike proving the winner for visitors Eccleshill United.

Three goals in the last nine minutes saw hosts Penistone Church surge to a 4-1 triumph over Thackley, Conor Glavin, Sam Scrivens and Andrew Ring with the late strikes.

And, Albion Sports trip to Maltby Main ended in a point apiece as they played out a goalless draw at Muglet Lane.

Almost a full programme of matches were completed in Division One with the only exception being East Yorkshire Carnegie's home clash with Hallam that was abandoned due to floodlight failure in the 63rd minute with the away side leading 4-0.

Nostell Miners Welfare head the table, leading a group of four teams on nine points, after they won 5-1 at bottom side FC Bolsover, Jack Owen, Adam Hayton, Daniel Critchlow, Jack Owen and Bradley Kerr piling on the pressure for Bolsover who have lost their opening four games.

Second-placed Winterton Rangers made it three wins out of three as William Peers and Elliot Broughton secured a 2-0 victory over visitors Shirebrook Town.

Leon Hurles-Brook and Matthias Britton netted in the final ten minutes to turn Campion's match at AFC Emley on its head as the hosts were beaten 3-2 after leading 2-1 as the game went into the final straight.

Campion are third, ahead of Worsbrough Bridge Athletic on goal difference after the Briggers suffered their first loss of the season, Callum Mawbey and Matthew Ord scoring in Dronfield Town's 2-1 win on their travels.

Gavin King scored a hat-trick for Ollerton but his side went down 6-3 at home to Selby Town with two goals each from Carl Stewart and Charlie Clamp helping the Robins to their second victory of the season.

Armthorpe Welfare, Harworth Colliery and Swallownest picked up their first points of the campaign with wins.

Jason Crisp and Lee Betts were Armthorpe's heroes as they defeated hosts Glasshoughton Welfare 2-1, Matthew Robinson grabbed a brace in Harworth's 4-3 victory at home to Rossington Main and Swallownest won 3-0 at Parkgate, Oliver Grady, Ashley Cooper and Adam Daughtrey with their goals.

And, Grimsby Borough are fifth in the table after they were 4-2 winners at Skegness Town with both sides sharing four goals in the first half before Jack Debnam and Joshua Morrall claimed the points for the Wilderness Boys following the interval.
