Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2018/19 #25

4th November, 2018

Winterton Rangers' excellent home win over former Buildbase FA Vase winners Dunston UTS on Saturday means the Division One leaders are the only Toolstation NCEL side left in this season's competition.

There were six matches involving our teams at the Second Round stage but it was solely Winterton who tasted victory, courtesy of a couple of excellent Liam Nelthorpe free-kicks in their 2-1 home win.

The second was a dramatic one, coming in stoppage time after a Robbie Start own goal had cancelled out the first.

Elsewhere, sadly, it was disappointment with Barton Town, Hallam and Thackley all beaten on their own patch.

Barton went down 2-0 to Shildon, Sam Smith scored for Hallam in their 2-1 loss to Hebburn Town and Thackley were beaten by a single goal by West Auckland Town.

Nash Connolly netted an opener for Hemsworth Miners Welfare but they fell to a 3-1 defeat at Irlam whilst Dronfield Town also bowed out 3-1 away from home, Luis Afonso-Ferrero getting them a late consolation.

There were eight games each in the Premier Division and Division One with business as usual for the leading four sides in the top flight as they all claimed victories.

It was a fifth win in a row for leaders Yorkshire Amateur who were 4-0 home winners over Bottesford Town with another two for the league's top scorer Ashley Flynn added to by goals from Fernando Moke and Callum Charlton.

Second-placed Penistone Church stay three points behind as they also won 4-0 at home to Handsworth Parramore who drop to eighth, Jordan Coduri's opener added to by a Sam Scrivens brace and one goal for Nathan Keightley.

Knaresborough Town remain third on goal difference as Brad Waler's hat-trick secured a 3-2 victory over visitors Albion Sports and Bridlington Town completed a clean sweep for the top four as a Jake Day penalty, plus goals from Joe McFadyen and Nathan Modest, claimed a 3-1 win for the Seasiders at Garforth Town.

Worksop Town and Maltby Main move up into fifth and sixth spot, respectively, after they each picked up three points against bottom two sides.

Matthew Sykes and Connor Brunt scored as Worksop dispatched Goole AFC 2-0 at the King of Soho Stadium and it was a 4-0 triumph for Maltby at Harrogate Railway Athletic.

Bradley Morton had Main 1-0 up by the interval and their lead was increased in the second half by Steven Hopewell, Joshua Nodder and Jordan Turner.

Hall Road Rangers have climbed a place to sixteenth despite a 2-1 home loss to Eccleshill United, Luke Harrop and Charlie Flaherty scoring for the Eagles after an early goal from Joshua Vickers for the hosts.

Rangers now go above Liversedge on goals scored after Sedge's 2-0 defeat to visitors Athersley Recreation, Joshua Dacre and Christopher Wood doing the damage in the last fifteen minutes of the opening half.

The chasing pack in Division One could only close their respective gaps to the summit by one point as Campion, Grimsby Borough and Nostell Miners Welfare all drew.

Campion were 2-0 down at Harworth Colliery in the opening eighteen minutes through a Richard Williams double but they fought back early in the secon period with goals from Matthias Britton and Calum Ward to claim a 2-2 stalemate.

Four goals were also shared in Borough's trip to AFC Emley, Marc Cooper scoring in the first minute to give the away side the lead before Shane Hamilton equalised, Daniel Trott regained the advantage for the visitors on the hour mark and an injury-time strike from Wayne Hughes meant the game ended with a point apiece.

Nostell, meanwhile, drew 1-1 with Parkgate at the Crofton Community Centre, Daniel Critchlow putting them ahead on twelve minutes with an equaliser coming midway through the second period from Nathan Swindells.

Selby Town stay fifth but move to within six points of Winterton as two goals each from Samuel Cable and Carl Stewart helped them to a 5-1 home victory over East Yorkshire Carnegie.

The top six is now completed by Worsbrough Bridge Athletic who won 2-1 at Rossington Main, Lee Morris and Kieran Hirst striking in the opening quarter-of-an-hour to ultimately claim the victory.

The biggest win of the day came at Langwith Road as Shirebrook Town ran out 6-1 victors over visitors Armthorpe Welfare, the home side's haul including two each for Samuel Dockwray and Billy Simpson.

And, there were wins for Ollerton Town and Swallownest to move them both seven points away from the bottom two.

Gavin King, Sean Dickinson and Lewis Bingham netted in Ollerton's 3-0 victory at Skegness Town whilst Thomas Cropper and Jason Short ensured a 2-1 defeat of Glasshoughton Welfare by hosts Swallownest.
