Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2018/19 #26

8th November, 2018

Yorkshire Amateur's lead at the top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division has grown to six points after a hard-fought home win over Bridlington Town in midweek.

The Ammers found themselves 2-0 down after just seventeen minutes thanks to a Jake Day brace for the Seasiders, the second of which was a penalty, but they were back on level terms before the interval with Ashley Flynn and Fernando Moke getting on the scoresheet.

Jack Bulless regained the lead for the Seasiders early in the second period and that is how it stayed until the last fifteen minutes where Flynn scored twice more to complete his hat-trick and make it 25 league goals for him this season whilst claiming a 4-3 victory for the home side.

That was one of three Premier Division games played on Tuesday night with Thackley and Maltby Main playing out a goalless draw whilst Andrew Fox's 28th minute strike was enough for a 1-0 win for Staveley Miners Welfare at Garforth Town, a victory that moves the Trojans up to twelfth.

Meanwhile, in Division One, Harworth Colliery moved out of the bottom two with a 1-0 victory at seventh-placed Glasshoughton Welfare, Joshua Davies with the goal after fourteen minutes for a priceless three points.

The rest of the midweek action was focused on the County Cups with disappointment for Dronfield Town and Shirebrook Town who were both beaten by higher-ranked hosts in the Second Round of the Derbyshire Senior Cup.

Dronfield went down 6-0 at Belper Town whilst Ben Burbanks netted for Shirebrook in their 5-1 loss at Matlock Town.

Rossington Main and Penistone Church were the NCEL's winners in the four Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup Third Round ties that involved our sides.

Rossington beat their Premier Division one visitors Handsworth Parramore 5-3 on penalties to cause an upset.

Lee Holmes twice brought them back level after goals from Jed Phillips and Lee Cooksey for the Amber Parras in a 2-2 draw.

Penistone were made to work hard for a 4-3 home victory over Grimethorpe Sports, all of their goals coming in the last half-hour through a Conor Glavin double alongside goals for Andrew Ring and Sam Scrivens.

Worksop Town bowed out to a single-goal loss at home to Frickley Athletic and Parkgate tasted defeat to lower league opposition as they were beaten 2-1 by North Gawber Colliery despite taking an eighteenth-minute lead through Nathan Swindells.

And, in the Second Round of this season's West Riding County Cup, there was an upset caused by Knaresborough Town as they knocked out current holders Farsley Celtic, 4-2 on penalties after the tie finished 3-3.

Nicholas Black, Brad Walker and Gregg Anderson had the NCEL hosts 3-1 up against their Evo-Stik League visitors and, although Celtic fought back in the second period, Paul Stansfield's side held their nerve to go through on spot kicks.

Goole AFC also ended their home match against higher-ranked opposition sharing six goals but were unluckily beaten 4-2 in a shoot-out against National League side FC Halifax Town.

Christopher Ovington and Joshua Schofield had the Vikings 2-0 up before Halifax scored three times in quick succession to take the lead and then Adam Lund made it 3-3 in stoppage time to take the tie to penalties.
