Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2018/19 #36

30th December, 2018

A single-goal home victory for Yorkshire Amateur on Saturday saw them extend their lead at the top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division to seven points going in to 2019.

Their visitors Handsworth Parramore looked to be taking home a point in a goalless draw but they conceded a penalty with eight minutes remaining and the spot kick was converted by Ashley Flynn, his 27th league goal of the season, to secure a perfect afternoon for the Ammers.

Their two closest rivals Penistone Church and Knaresborough Town both fell to 2-1 defeats to swing the title race in the Southern Stadium side's favour.

Sam Scrivens equalised in the tenth minute for Penistone after Barton Town had taken the lead through Daniel Chambers but it was the hosts who would take the points, courtesy of Eddy Birch's winner at the start of the second period.

Knaresborough, meanwhile, were beaten by two first-half strikes from Chris Adams and Andrew Norfolk for visitors Bridlington Town, Gregg Anderson halving the deficit in the 77th minute.

The Seasiders' win moves them up into fifth with plenty of games in hand on the four teams above them.

Hemsworth Miners Welfare closed the gap on the summit in fourth with a 1-0 home victory over Staveley Miners Welfare but they left it late, Nash Connolly finding the net in the 87th minute.

A Jordan Turner hat-trick helped Maltby Main to a 4-0 defeat of basement visitors Goole AFC, Aaron Moxam also getting on the scoresheet for the Miners who will spend the New Year in sixth spot.

2-1 victories for Worksop Town and Eccleshill United keep them eighth and ninth, respectively, with Worksop beating Liversedge at the King of Soho Stadium whilst Eccleshill took the points at Garforth Town.

Craig Mitchell and Matthew Sykes were scorers for Worksop with Danny Farrar netting an equaliser for Sedge whilst a Christopher Lever double secured the win for Eccleshill who conceded a late penalty from Lee Turner.

Next-to-bottom Harrogate Railway Athletic picked up a 1-1 home draw with Bottesford Town, Stephen Smith bringing them level in the 55th minute after Jack McMenemy's opener in first-half stoppage time.

The Rail are now three points from safety after Hall Road Rangers' 2-1 defeat at Albion Sports, a last-gasp winner from Chris Fairhurst moving the Lions further away from danger and up into fifteenth whilst Rangers stay just outside the drop zone.

And, Athersley Recreation jump up to thirteenth after their 3-2 home win over Thackley, Aiden Salmons with a 78th minute winner after the visitors had fought back from going 2-0 down in the opening half-hour.

The top three sides in Division One all won, ensuring Campion enter the New Year at the summit with a three-point gap over second-placed Winterton Rangers and a further point ahead of Grimsby Borough who are third.

Matthew Semley put hosts Glasshoughton Welfare ahead in the seventh minute against Campion but Leon Hurles-Brook restored parity and, in the second period, new signing Andrew McCreadie scored their priceless winner.

Winterton had a 76th-minute winner from Paul Grimes to thank for their 1-0 home win over East Yorkshire Carnegie, a scoreline matched by Borough against visitors Skegness Town, Caine Winfarrah with the decider towards the end of the first half.

Hallam lost ground in fourth spot after they succumbed to a single-goal loss at Nostell Miners Welfare who climb to fifth, behind their Sandygate opponents on goal difference, thanks to Kai Hancock's eighth-minute strike.

Worsbrough Bridge Athletic stay sixth after an injury time equaliser from Jamie Austin claimed them a 1-1 draw at tenth-placed Swallownest.

Joseph Dale scored Selby Town but they drop to seventh as Sean Ebbs equalised and then a last-gasp winer from Ainsley Finney saw hosts Harworth Colliery claim a much-needed 2-1 victory in their fight to move out of the relegation zone.

They are now four points from Armthorpe Welfare who fall to eighteenth after they went down 2-1 at Rossington Main, Jordan Buckham with an 88th minute winner for the home side.

Bottom side FC Bolsover continued their upturn in results as they claimed their second win of the season, Lewis Warwick with the only goal of the game in the 38th minute in the Langwith Road derby as the tenants beat their landlords Shirebrook Town in what was an away fixture for Bolsover.

Elsewhere, Bruno Holden struck twice as Parkgate's winning run continued with a 3-0 home victory over Dronfield Town, Reece Hands also netting in their seventh successive victory that sees them climb up into eighth spot.

And, Gavin King scored a four-minute first-half hat-trick for Ollerton Town as they won 4-1 at AFC Emley, a victory that sees the Nottinghamshire side move up to sixteenth, with King now on 21 league goals for the season.
