Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2018/19 #47

28th February, 2019

The chase for the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division title took another twist in midweek with leaders Penistone Church falling to a 1-0 home loss to Bottesford Town.

The Poachers took all three points from their trip to the DSM Memorial Ground on Wednesday night, thanks to a Martin Pembleton decider midway through the opening period.

It means that Penistone are now only ahead of second-placed Worksop Town on goal difference, having played a game more, after the Tigers were 2-0 winners at bottom side Harrogate Railway Athletic the previous night.

Craig Mitchell's opener on 29 minutes was added to in injury time by Matthew Sykes to notch up Worksop's eighth consecutive victory and close the gap on the summit.

Yorkshire Amateur are three points away from the top two in third as an Ashley Flynn hat-trick, taking his league tally to 32 for season, along with a goal from Fernando Moke, saw them comfortably beat visitors Maltby Main, 4-0.

The Ammers go above Hemsworth Miners Welfare who dropped two places to fifth as Bridlington Town's 3-2 win at Eccleshill United moved them into fourth.

Michael Thompson, Jake Day and Joe McFadyen put the Seasiders 3-0 up in the opening 35 minutes before Eccleshill pulled one back before the interval through Charlie Flaherty and then came back to within a goal of their opponents with Jake Thompson netting halfway through the second period.

Staveley Miners Welfare are up into sixth after Tomas Poole, Adam Baskerville and Joe Pugh netted for them in a 3-1 victory at Handsworth Parramore, Waide Fairhurst with the home side's goal after their visitors had taken a 2-0 lead.

Bottesford climb into ninth after their win at Penistone and Thackley go up three places to fourteenth following a 3-1 win at Albion Sports where all four goals came in the last twenty minutes.

Luke Robinson and Paul Whitley made it 2-0 for Thackley, Luke Aldrich then got on the scoresheet for the Lions, and an 87th minute strike from Jack Normanton wrapped things up in the Dennyboys' favour.

Division One leaders Campion, like their Premier Division counterparts, also tasted defeat at home after they had seemingly rescued a point against Glasshoughton Welfare.

Andrew McCreadie brought them back level on 70 minutes after Marc Lumb had broken the deadlock for the away side but it was Welfare who would be ultimately celebrating a 2-1 victory as Zivanai Mbire snatched a winner in stoppage time.

Campion stay three points ahead of second-placed Grimsby Borough with a game in hand.

Hallam and Dronfield Town both went up a place to fourth and sixth, respectively, after they drew 1-1 at Sandygate with Kieran Watson scoring first for Hallam before an equaliser came from the penalty spot with Mark Fereday calmly slotting the ball home.

And, in county cup action, Ollerton Town could not bridge a three-division gap between themselves and their hosts in the Quarter-Finals of the Notts Senior Cup as, despite a battling performance, they went down 6-0 at former NCEL side Basford United.
