Armthorpe Welfare are now recruiting for an assistant to join boss Brian Johnston on the management team of their Toolstation NCEL Premier Division side. This role has been vacant since part way through last season and, although the manager has been grateful for help from other individuals, they now require somebody to take on the demanding role on a permanent basis.
The club have stressed that Armthorpe Welfare is run entirely by volunteers, which includes the management team. The assistant manager position is a voluntary position, although reasonable travel expenses will be met in the case of away matches.
Although the full range of duties of the assistant manager will be open to discussion with the first team manager, the role will be heavily weighted with practical coaching of players. It is anticipated that the main duties (though not an exhaustive list) will consist of:
- Planning and leading the pre-match warm up
- Planning and leading training sessions
- Directing the team, issuing instructions, and giving positive encouragement from the touchline during matches in conjunction with the 1st team manager
- Contributing to team talks pre-match, half time and full time
- Individual man management - Speaking to players individually, making sure they understand their playing role and giving feedback after matches in conjunction with the 1st team manager
- Assist with weekly management of players by phone and text
- Where appropriate, assist with player recruitment and scouting
It is imperative that anyone interested in applying is available to attend every matchday and training sessions when arranged, though occasional absences would not be a problem.
Anyone interested in applying MUST have:
- Minimum of FA Level 1 Coaching Badge (1st4Sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football) (Proof would be required)
- Adult coaching experience at a football club, (at step 5, or in the NCEL, or both would be a distinct advantage)
- Regular availability on match days
- A desire to develop themselves further and attend football related courses where necessary
The preferred candidate would be local to Doncaster and could suit coaches of adult football that are looking to take a step up to a more senior position in a management team, or those that have previously held an assistant manager's position in adult football.
