NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #11
14th September, 2009
Rainworth Miners Welfare will fly the flag for the KoolSport NCEL in the Second Round of Qualifying for the FA Cup.
They are the League's sole survivors as four others fell by the wayside over the weekend.
Matt Draper's winner fifteen minutes from time saw Rainworth through 2-1 at home to Holbrook Miners Welfare.
They had opened the scoring through Jermain Hollis on 43 minutes before their East Midlands Counties opponents drew level early in the second period.
Holbrook's league rivals Bardon Hill Sports, meanwhile, put Barton Town Old Boys to the sword with a 5-0 victory.
Our remaining three sides all bowed out to UniBond Premier League teams.
Bridlington Town were edged out by a single goal at home to Whitby Town, Liam Gildea with the winner on 73 minutes.
Winterton Rangers lost 2-1 at Buxton with Liam Wilkin grabbing them a late consolation.
And, Hallam held Burscough at Sandygate for an hour before eventually being beaten 4-0.
Four sides now lead the way in the Premier Division on fifteen points - Armthorpe Welfare and Bridlington Town remain the top two but the gap has been closed by Selby Town and Scarborough Athletic.
Selby moved above Scarborough on goal difference as they beat bottom side Brodsworth Welfare, 6-1.
Luke Ibbetson and Steve Lyon both grabbed braces whilst Scott Pickles and Liam Radford also got on the scoresheet for the home side - Chris Peeke scored only Brodsworth's second goal of the league season.
Scarborough won 2-1 at Long Eaton United as Scott Phillips and Craig Hogg put them ahead by the break.
Nick Ghislanzoni then pulled one back for the home side but Long Eaton could not find an equaliser.
A Colin Williamson double helped Nostell Miners Welfare to a 4-1 win at Parkgate, a victory that moves them up to fifth, three points behind the leading pack.
Barry Rankin and Francis Johnson scored at each end of the match whilst Ryan Johnson got the solitary goal for the home side who are stuck in the bottom three.
Pickering Town's first home game of the season saw them beat Maltby Main 2-1 to climb to sixth spot, Wayne Aziz with the winner two minutes from time.
Liversedge were 2-1 victors at Thackley although a late Phil Reynolds goal for the home side made it a nailbiting finish after Sedge had taken a two-goal lead through Jake Lawler and Jermaine Moyce.
Dinnington Town drew 2-2 at home to Arnold Town whilst Lincoln Moorlands Railway picked up a point in a 1-1 draw at Hall Road Rangers.
Tadcaster Albion maintained their 100% record at the top of Division One although it was a lot tighter than many may have predicted at a Glasshoughton Welfare side yet to pick up a point.
Steve Rollinson's fifth-minute strike was the only goal of the afternoon.
Askern Villa stay second and two points behind Tadcaster after a 3-2 win at home to Rossington Main.
Gary Mundy put them ahead on 22 minutes before Michael Evans made it two by the interval.
Michael MacDonald pulled one back for the visitors but Evans got his second as the game went into injury time to seal the win even though MacDonald struck again before the final whistle.
Appleby Frodingham climb to third after a 2-0 win at Pontefract Collieries, Michael Bettney opening the scoring early in the second half before a last gasp penalty from Danny Ricketts ensured the victory.
Brighouse Town remain fourth after a dramatic 2-2 draw at home to Teversal.
They looked on course for victory when, in the eighth minute of injury time, Liam Wilde headed in an equaliser for the visitors.
Leeds Carnegie are fifth after a triple first half salvo earned them a 3-1 victory at home to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
