NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #12

17th September, 2009

Bridlington Town and Armthorpe Welfare continue to be the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division pacesetters after they both notched up their sixth win out of six in midweek.

Bridlington move ahead of Armthorpe on goals scored after their 5-1 win at Maltby Main.

In a game that saw four players sent off, three for the home side, Craig Burdick and Danny Buttle put Brid two up by the interval before Ashley Dexter and Jack Wilkinson made it 4-0.

Rob Branagan pulled one back for Main on the hour before Frank Belt's injury time strike completed the comprehensive victory for the Seasiders.

Armthorpe were 2-0 winners at Nostell Miners Welfare with Bruno Holden getting both their goals in the final twenty minutes of the game.

Thackley climb to tenth after a victory by the same scoreline at next-to-bottom Shirebrook Town with Kyle Forbes-Chambers and Danny Toronczak finding the net in each half.

Three matches took place in the First Round of the Presidents Cup with the most dramatic coming at West Street on Wednesday night.

Winterton Rangers won a ten-goal thriller against Pickering Town after coming from behind twice.

The Pikes had seemingly sealed progress by half-time when Darren Clough struck a hat-trick, with one goal from the penalty spot, and Danny Brunton had also found the net.

But, the home side, who had kept themselves in touch in that opening period with goals from Liam Wikin and Danny Frost, drew the game level by the end of the ninety minutes with a second from Frost and the vital fourth from Matthew Plant.

Andy Walkden and Rob Northen then struck in extra-time to send Winterton through.

Long Eaton United were 1-0 winners at home to Scarborough Athletic on Tuesday night, Jared Holmes with the only goal of the game on eight minutes.

But, the following day, Long Eaton informed the League that they had played an unregistered player in the tie.

The NCEL Management Board will now decide what action will be taken at their meeting next month.

Carl Spencer struck Arnold Town's winner in a 2-1 victory at Rainworth Miners Welfare to send the Eagles through.

Teversal are through to the Second Round of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy after a 6-2 victory at Grimsby Borough.

Michael Lyall struck a hat-trick for the Tevie Boys whilst Danny Plumbe, Mark Robinson and Lee Bingham also got on the scoresheet for them to book a home tie against Barton Town Old Boys next Tuesday.

The other seven Second Round matches were played this week with the biggest winners being Bottesford Town.

They beat visitors Eccleshill United 7-2 with Callum Render grabbing three of their goals.

Only one other side won at home, Tadcaster Albion, who needed extra-time to overcome Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

Kevin Smith and Alan Jackson got the vital goals in a 4-2 victory.

Askern Villa won 4-1 at Glasshoughton Welfare with Curtis Walker, Kyle Jones, Gary Mundy and Mark Vickerage finding the net.

And, a Paul Harrison brace helped Leeds Carnegie progress 3-1 at Appleby Frodingham.

The other three games ended as 2-1 wins for the away side with Rossington Main victorious at Brighouse Town, Staveley Miners Welfare dumping out Worsbrough Bridge Athletic and Yorkshire Amateur needing extra-time to see off Pontefract Collieries.
