NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #15
28th September, 2009
The KoolSport NCEL's participation in the FA Cup is over after our last team involved in the competition bowed out at the weekend.
Rainworth Miners Welfare put up an excellent fight at Zamaretto League side Bedworth United, but went down 2-1.
Julian Topliss had put the Wrens ahead on 38 minutes before the hosts levelled in first half injury time and then took the lead immediately after the interval.
The match was marred late on by ugly scenes both on- and off-the-pitch following an incident in the dugouts.
An investigation is set to take place into claims that the Wrens physio was kicked and floored as he tried to retrieve the ball for his side.
In the Premier Division, the clash between top and bottom went form's way as Bridlington Town won 8-1 at home to Brodsworth Welfare to keep up their 100% record and lead the table on goal difference.
Craig Palmer and Alex Rhodes both hit hat-tricks - with the former now on twelve for the season - whilst Danny Buttle netted from the penalty spot and Phil Harrison also got on the scoresheet.
Shane Fox scored for the visitors who have now conceded 50 goals in their eight league games so far.
Armthorpe Welfare also kept their perfect start going with a 3-1 win at Winterton Rangers to stay second.
Bruno Holden and Liam Nelthorpe put them two-up in the first half before Liam Davis made sure of the win after the interval despite a late consolation by Graeme Severn for Rangers.
Welfare are ahead of third-placed Scarborough Athletic on goal difference who claimed their seventh straight victory with an injury time winner from Richard Medcalf at Hall Road Rangers.
Martin Thacker had put the home side ahead on 48 minutes before Joel Hartley levelled on 80 and Medcalf struck to make it 2-1.
Three points behind in fourth place are Selby Town who won 1-0 at home to Nostell Miners Welfare, Brenton Leister's second minute penalty separating the sides.
There is then a six point gap to the next four teams who are all on twelve points, led by Thackley who were beaten 1-0 at home by Maltby Main, Lee Mellon with the goal on thirteen minutes.
Then comes Nostell Miners Welfare, Pickering Town who did not play and Liversedge who climb to eighth after a dramatic 3-2 win at Arnold Town.
Paul Walker got their winner in injury time after they had twice previously lost a lead.
Luke Sherman's opener for Sedge on four minutes was quickly cancelled out by Chris Freestone's 100th goal for the Eagles.
Sherman then made it 2-1 by the break before Brett Adams levelled matters on 83 minutes but then up stepped Walker to ensure the points were going back to the Clayborn Ground.
At the other end of the table, Shirebrook Town have had a change of manager but it did not bring a change of fortune as they went down 3-1 at Dinnington Town.
The Langwith Road side remain next-to-bottom without a point so far but they broke their goal drought with Ben Kistell's 40th-minute strike that put them ahead.
However, Simon Mirfin, Michael Blythen and Paul Whalley found the net in the second half for the hosts to move them up into ninth.
A Mark Caine double secured a 2-1 victory for Parkgate at home to Lincoln Moorlands Railway whilst Mark Nisbett's late equaliser saw Hallam take a point in a 1-1 draw with visitors Long Eaton United.
Askern Villa now top Division One after a 4-2 win at home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare, overtaking Tadcaster Albion who dropped their first points at Grimsby Borough.
Phil Smith got a goal for Taddy on 88 minutes but it was too little too late as Boro had already sealed the points thanks to Matthew Oswin, Lee Stephenson and Darren Hanslip.
An Andy Cooper brace, with the winner coming in injury time, saw Leeds Carnegie move up to third, three points off the top, with a 2-1 victory at Barton Town Old Boys.
Lee Hill went one better, claiming a hat-trick in AFC Emley's 4-1 win at Appleby Frodingham to climb above their hosts into fourth place.
Just behind them on goal difference are Bottesford Town who, with goals in the last quarter-of-an-hour from Callum Render, Tim Lowe and Luke Clifford, won 3-0 at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
Eccleshill United stay bottom, still looking for their first points of the season, after a Jovan Maric double condemned them to a 2-0 defeat at Eccleshill United.
But, James Flower's 82nd minute winner saw the side just above them, Glasshoughton Welfare, break their duck with a 2-1 win at Brighouse Town.
Staveley Miners Welfare were 1-0 victors at home to Rossington Main, Jamie Smith with the winner in a game that saw Main finish the game with seven players having had four sent off.
And the biggest winners of the day in Division One were Yorkshire Amateur who won 4-0 at home to Teversal.
Fernando Moke opened the scoring before Curtis Bernard netted twice and Dominic Noteman concluded the scoring with five minutes remaining.
