NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #18
8th October, 2009
Most of our sides enjoyed success in a midweek completely taken over by County Cup action.
Only three teams out of twelve fell by the wayside in the First Round of the Derbyshire and Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cups.
Long Eaton United were 5-0 victors at home to Blackwell Miners Welfare in the only Derbyshire match, Shane Newton grabbing a hat-trick whilst Nick Ghislanzoni and Gerry Moran completed the scoring.
In the Sheffield & Hallamshire competition, Nostell Miners Welfare were the biggest winners as they thumped visitors Bentley Colliery, 9-1.
Jimmy Jagger found the net five times for the Division One side and there was a brace each for Graham Marchant and Dave Nicholas.
Callum Selby and Damion Liddle also grabbed doubles as Hemsworth Miners Welfare won 6-1 at home to Parramore Sports.
AFC Emley progressed with a 3-0 victory over visitors Yorkshire Main with Marc Townsend scoring in the first half and Lee Hill and Steven Kenworthy after the interval.
Daniel Smith and Simon Asquith ensured a 2-0 home win for Hallam over Athersley Recreation whilst a single goal victory for Staveley Miners Welfare as they hosted Phoenix came courtesy of a 41st minute Joe Appleyard strike.
Dinnington Town were another home winner as they beat Kinsley Boys 3-1 with goals from Liam Cartledge, Liam Morris and Robert Ward.
Maltby Main won by the same scoreline at South Kirkby Colliery, Rob Branagan, Jonathan Wall and Neil Longhurst adding to their season's tally.
In the all-NCEL clash, Rossington Main went through 1-0 at the expense of Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, Michael MacDonald with the decisive goal in the opening minute of the second period for the hosts.
But, it was misery for Parkgate who were beaten by Mexborough Pocket, 4-3 on penalties, after a thrilling 120 minutes where the scoreline ended 4-4.
And, Brodsworth Welfare went down 1-0 at home to Mexborough Main Street.
