NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #19

12th October, 2009

Scarborough Athletic's lead at the top of the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division has been cut to two points after their dramatic 4-3 defeat at Parkgate on Saturday.

They were leading 3-2 going into the final few minutes with David Kemp, Craig Hogg and Mark Griffin seemingly getting them the win.

But, Sean Hamstead levelled matters for Parkgate before, five minutes into injury time, David Kippax snatched a winner for a home side that, despite that victory, remain in the bottom five of the table.

The trio chasing the Seadogs at the summit all closed the gap with Bridlington Town and Selby Town winning whilst Armthorpe Welfare's 100% record came to an end with a draw.

Second-placed Bridlington were 3-0 winners at home to Nostell Miners Welfare, thanks to second half goals from Craig Palmer, Frank Belt and David Ricardo.

Bruno Holden earned Armthorpe a point with his 59th-minute equaliser at home to Long Eaton United as they stay third.

Jared Holmes had opened the scoring for the visitors early in the first half.

And, Selby beat Lincoln Moorlands Railway 3-0 at home, a Stuart Dove brace adding to a ninth minute opener from Steve Lyon.

Rainworth Miners Welfare move up to fifth, five points behind Selby, after a 3-2 victory at Thackley in a match where four of the goals came in the opening 21 minutes.

Matthew Baxter had put the Wrens ahead before Ross Daly levelled for the home side, then Massiah McDonald and Cameron Fearon made it 3-1 for the visitors.

That is how it stayed until injury time when Luke Hudson pulled one back for the Dennyfield outfit but they could not find an equaliser.

The bottom two sides met at Langwith Road with both Shirebrook Town and Brodsworth Welfare looking for their first points of the season.

And, it was the hosts who were victorious in a 4-1 win with Daniel O'Donnell scoring twice whilst Dominic Jones and Gareth Davey stretched their lead in the second period.

Neil Bagshaw bagged the only goal for Brodsworth.

Arnold Town were the biggest Premier Division winners as they beat Maltby Main 4-0 at Eagle Valley - Tommy Hannigan, Joe Naylor, Luke Smithson and Carl Spencer with their goals.

A Danny Frost double gave Winterton Rangers a 2-0 victory at Pickering Town whilst two late goals for Grant Allott and Kieran Gallagher saw Dinnington Town come from behind to draw 2-2 at home to Liversedge.

And, Hall Road Rangers were 2-1 winners over visitors Hallam.

It was honours even in Division One's game of the day where the top two sides clashed at Manor Way, leaders Askern Villa drawing 1-1 at home to Tadcaster Albion.

Third placed Appleby Frodingham could not capitalise, though, as they went down 3-2 at home to Eccleshill United.

Matthew Robinson had put them ahead by the break but Andrew Fieldhouse and Peter Dawson gave the visitors the lead going into the last ten minutes.

James Atkinson looked to have snatched a draw late on before Fieldhouse got his second and Eccleshill's third for their first win of the season that moved them off the bottom of the table.

With the top three sides all dropping points, it gave a chance for the chasing pack to close the gap.

Staveley Miners Welfare move up to fourth after hammering Hemsworth Miners Welfare, 9-1, at Inkersall Road.

The visitors were reduced to eight men on a miserable afternoon for them as they became the League's new basement side.

Ryan Damms grabbed a hat-trick for the hosts whilst Jamie Smith scored twice and Joel Birks, Danny Robinson, Scott Bates and Andrew Broadbent also found the net.

Staveley go above AFC Emley and Leeds Carnegie who drew 1-1 at the Welfare Ground.

Darryl Leach's last gasp winner earned Brighouse Town a 2-1 victory at Grimsby Borough to see them move up to seventh, just ahead of Pontefract Collieries who won 1-0 at home to Rossington Main thanks to an early Rian Sykes strike.

Glasshoughton Welfare's renaissance continued with a 1-0 victory at Yorkshire Amateur, Rob Malone with the goal five minutes from time.

Teversal won 2-1 at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, courtesy of an injury-time winner from Colin Cockerill.

And, Gareth Barlow's brace ensured a 2-1 home victory for Barton Town Old Boys at home to Bottesford Town, a win that moves them up to twelfth.
