NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #20

15th October, 2009

Five KoolSport NCEL Division One teams were giantkillers as they put out Premier Division opposition in the Second Round of the League Cup in midweek.

The biggest winners were Staveley Miners Welfare who beat hosts Maltby Main 5-1 with Scott Bates getting a hat-trick and Ryan Damms netting twice.

Grimsby Borough were 2-0 victors at home to Rainworth Miners Welfare with a Matthew Oswin penalty on the half hour added to ten minutes from time by Dean Newby.

What made Boro's win more remarkable was that they were reduced to eight men after three of their players were sent off in a seven minute spell during the second period.

The other three Division One winners over top flight sides did so by a 2-1 scoreline.

Nathan Cartman and Wayne Crossley gave Brighouse Town victory over visitors Liversedge whilst Teversal came from behind with goals from Gary Atkins and Kyle Gee-Pemberton to win at home to Scarborough Athletic.

And, an extra-time winner from Gavin Armitage saw AFC Emley progress at the expense of hosts, Brodsworth Welfare.

The remaining Premier Division versus Division One encounter proved one-sided as Armthorpe Welfare won 9-2 at home to Eccleshill United, with Henry Sibenge, Liam Slack and Kyle Thompson all netting hat-tricks.

There were five all top flight ties and all of them proved tight affairs.

Dinnington Town beat visitors Hall Road Rangers 2-1 with goals from Liam Morris and Michael Blythen in the last twenty minutes before a last gasp consolation for the visitors from Jamie Barnwell.

Jared Holmes' 27th-minute goal separated Long Eaton United from their visitors, Arnold Town.

Bridlington Town, with goals from Ashley Allanson and Craig Palmer, were 2-1 winners at Thackley.

Pickering Town went through 2-1 at Lincoln Moorlands Railway with the vital goal coming from Lyle Hillier on 53 minutes.

And, Parkgate won 3-2 at Winterton Rangers with Ashley Atkins grabbing the winner in extra-time.

Gareth Barlow struck twice in Barton Town Old Boys' victory by the same scoreline at home to Leeds Carnegie whilst, in the other all Division One clash, Tadcaster Albion won 2-1 against visitors Rossington Main.

Marc Thompson and Darren Brandon had them two-up by the hour mark before a consolation on 71 minutes from Jason Stokes.

In the only Premier Division game of midweek, Selby Town played out a goalless home draw against an ever-improving Shirebrook Town.

And, despite a fifteenth minute goal from Steve McCarron, Appleby Frodingham bowed out of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy, 5-1 at Louth Town.
