NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #24
29th October, 2009
Armthorpe Welfare and Rainworth Miners Welfare both picked up vital away wins as the gap between the top four sides in the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division closed to two points.
Armthorpe remain third but join second placed Bridlington Town on 28 points after a 1-0 victory at Long Eaton United, Liam Hardy with the goal on 21 minutes.
They're ahead on goal difference of Rainworth who climb to fourth after they made it six league wins in a row by beating hosts Pickering Town 3-2.
Rudy Funk's side were seemingly coasting to victory when Julian Topliss, Massiah McDonald and Cameron Fearon had them three up by the 66th minute.
They were hanging on, though, towards the end as Darren Clough and then Lyle Hillier brought the Pikes back into the game.
But, they held out to close the gap a little between themselves and league leaders, Scarborough Athletic.
Shirebrook Town moved out of the bottom three as they made it six games without defeat in all competitions by winning 2-0 at Parkgate.
It was the late show for Dave Rhodes' side as Simon Johnson broke the deadlock on 78 minutes and Daniel O'Donnell made sure of the victory with an injury time penalty.
Two goals in the last three minutes of the first half from Matt Sutton and Danny Frost earned Winterton Rangers a 2-0 win at home to Hallam, a victory that moves them up to ninth.
Staveley Miners Welfare move up four places and into second place in Division One after a 1-0 win at Bottesford Town.
Andrew Fox grabbed the vital goal with ten minutes remaining and Staveley are now just two points behind leaders, Tadcaster Albion.
One of the sides they went above were AFC Emley who fell to a 4-2 defeat at Barton Town Old Boys.
Ryan Morton and Hayden Barnett had the home side 2-0 ahead by 42 minutes but Steven Kenworthy pulled Emley back into the game just before half time.
The match was over as a contest, however, when Barnett grabbed his second just after the interval and Declan Marshall made it four for Barton on the hour.
Micky Amos then grabbed a late consolation for the visitors.
The victory moves Barton into the top half of the table.
