NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #35
7th December, 2009
Armthorpe Welfare are through to the last 32 of the FA Vase after beating fellow KoolSport NCEL highflyers Bridlington Town.
David Buck scored the winner with ten minutes remaining as Welfare came from behind to take the Third Round tie.
Frank Belt's penalty had broken the deadlock for the Seasiders on the half-hour but Henry Sibenge cancelled that out on 54 minutes.
Pickering Town will replay in midweek to see if they join Armthorpe after a 1-1 draw at home to Dunkirk.
Chaz Wrigley had them ahead early in the second period but a Lee Day equaliser forced extra time and, with no further addition to the score, the two will meet again in Nottingham on Tuesday night.
Rainworth Miners Welfare are out of the competition as David Wells' 88th-minute goal gave visitors Norton & Stockton Ancients a 2-1 victory.
That was after Cameron Fearon had given the Wrens a half-time lead in injury time.
In the Premier Division, with none of the four top sides involved in League action, there was a chance for the rest to close the gap but those closest at the start of play did not take advantage.
Fifth-placed Thackley remain five points behind after their 3-1 loss at home to Parkgate.
They began the game badly and were two down after just eight minutes through goals from David Kippax and William Senior.
Matthew Mathers pulled one back before the hour mark but Andrew Gascoigne made sure of the three points that move Parkgate out of the bottom three with a penalty in stoppage time.
Liversedge, who were sixth, also tasted defeat at home as they were beaten 2-1 by Long Eaton United, Nathan Watson and Shane Newton with the visitors' goals either side of half-time after Jamie Wasley had opened the scoring for the hosts.
Sedge now drop to eighth, overtaken by Arnold Town and Winterton Rangers who both won.
Arnold were 6-3 victors at home to Hall Road Rangers with Tony Law and Joe Naylor both striking twice whilst Tommy Hannigan and Tyrone Burton also got on the scoresheet for the Eagles.
And, second half goals from Gavin Cooper and Liam Slack earned Winterton a 2-0 victory at Maltby Main.
Hallam got themselves a morale-boosting 4-1 victory over fellow strugglers Shirebrook Town at Sandygate.
Christopher Wood claimed a hat-trick to ease their worries as they move up to fifteenth whilst Shirebrook are back in the bottom three, two points ahead of Lincoln Moorlands Railway who drew 1-1 at Nostell Miners Welfare.
Staveley Miners Welfare extend their lead at the top of Division One to three points as a Jamie Smith brace helped them to a 3-1 win at home to Askern Villa.
Joel Birks also netted for the hosts whilst Lee Wilkinson pulled one back late on for Villa.
Tadcaster Albion and Leeds Carnegie, who started the day in third and second respectively, were due to meet at Ings Lane but the recent flooding there meant that the game was postponed.
AFC Emley jump over them both into second after their late show at home to Brighouse Town.
They were trailing to a Danny Toronczak strike as the game went into the last twenty minutes but Mark Stuart and Steven Kenworthy turned it round to a 2-1 victory.
Pontefract Collieries move up to fifth after second half goals from Ryan Poskitt, Paul Staniforth and a Bradley Thompson double in a 4-0 home win over Grimsby Borough.
Appleby Frodingham also scored four to climb to sixth with James Hare, James Atkinson and two from Danny Ricketts securing a 4-2 victory at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
Rob Northen struck twice as Barton Town Old Boys won by the same scoreline at home to Yorkshire Amateur whilst Jon Impey got both Hemsworth Miners Welfare's goals in a 2-0 victory at Bottesford Town.
Michael MacDonald gave Rossington Main a 29th minute lead at home to Teversal but a quick equaliser from Kyle Gee-Pemberton meant the game finished at 1-1.
Eccleshill United's home clash with Glasshoughton Welfare was postponed on health and safety grounds after a floodlight pylon collapsed on to the pitch during the week.
