NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #47
11th February, 2010
Arnold Town booked their place in the Final of the KoolSport NCEL Presidents Cup after two late goals saw them progress at the expense of Selby Town.
Joe Naylor and Tony Law struck in the last five minutes to send them through 2-0 at Eagle Valley and they will now meet either Winterton Rangers or Dinnington Town whose semi-final takes place in March.
In the Premier Division, another round of matches led to a change of table topper once again as Bridlington Town returned back to the summit.
Craig Burdick struck twice, once in each half, to give the Seasiders a 2-0 win "away from home" against their tenants, Scarborough Athletic, in front of a crowd of just over 700.
Brid are now a point clear of Rainworth Miners Welfare who dropped points in a 1-1 draw at home to next-to-bottom Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
Danny Bainbridge put the Wrens ahead on 30 minutes and it looked as though their winning run would stretch to seventeen games but Moorlands made sure of a point through Lee Beesley just after the hour mark.
With two games in hand over Bridlington, however, Rainworth remain slight favourites for the title.
Thackley's recent run of excellent form has seen move up to third, albeit eleven points behind Rainworth, after their latest victory was a 5-1 win at home to Dinnington Town.
Nicky Matthews scored a hat-trick whilst Dean Walters and Matthew Morgan also got on the scoresheet - Peter Smith got Dinnington's only joy on the night.
Thackley go above Armthorpe Welfare who drew 1-1 at Maltby Main, Stuart Preston's 69th minute goal rescuing them a point after the hosts had taken the lead through Neil Longhurst towards the end of the first half.
Winterton Rangers are eighth after their 2-0 victory at Nostell Miners Welfare, thanks to Liam Wilkin after fifteen minutes and Danny Frost with the same amount of time remaining.
And, Adam Walker's 25th minute strike earned Hall Road Rangers a 1-0 win at home to Liversedge.
Leeds Carnegie's lead at the top of Division One has been cut to just one point after they were beaten 3-1 at Brighouse Town.
Craig Smith put Brighouse in front on 24 minutes but John Hardy made sure the scores were level by the break.
But, Ben Charlesworth and Matthew Howgate struck late on to make it five wins out of five for Brighouse and move them to within six points of Carnegie in fourth spot.
Second-placed AFC Emley took full advantage with a 3-0 home victory over Worsbrough Bridge Athletic - Steven Kenworthy with a double and Lee Hill with the third.
A Christopher Coy hat-trick saw Staveley Miners Welfare, who are third, pick up a point in a 3-3 home draw with Appleby Frodingham as Callum Dransfield, Jack Siddall and Danny Ricketts netted for the visitors.
There's now a gap between the top five and the rest after Tadcaster Albion, in fifth, won 3-2 at Bottesford Town, coming from 2-0 down to beat their hosts with virtually the last kick of the game from Paul James.
Another hat-trick hero was Jake Vernon who helped Rossington Main to a 4-3 victory at home to Askern Villa whilst Hemsworth Miners Welfare were 2-0 winners over visitors Teversal.
And, Yorkshire Amateur bowed out of the West Riding County Cup Quarter-Finals with a 3-0 defeat at Vodkat League side, Barnoldswick Town.
