NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #49
18th February, 2010
Armthorpe Welfare consolidated their third place in the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division with a dramatic victory at Arnold Town in midweek.
The victory keeps them within reach of the top two as the title race continues to gather pace.
But, they needed a Liam Hardy strike three minutes from time to pick up all three points in a 4-3 win at Arnold Town.
The hosts had been 2-1 up at the interval with Luke Smithson and Chris Freestone scoring for the Eagles and Craig Fletcher netting in between for the visitors.
Mark Smith restored Arnold's two goal lead on the hour but that was cancelled out within eight minutes as James Walker and Hardy made it 3-3.
And, as the game looked to be ending as a draw, Hardy pounced for Armthorpe's fourth of the evening.
There was also late drama in two other Premier Division matches as Liversedge and Selby Town picked up 3-2 victories, courtesy of last minute winners.
Ben Hardy was the hero for Sedge at Parkgate whilst Ian Beckram was the toast of the Robins as Selby won at home to Dinnington Town.
Hallam beat visitors Maltby Main 4-0 with Christopher Wood and Danny Meadows amongst the scorers for the hosts.
And, bottom side Brodsworth Welfare's search for their first win of the season continued as they were edged out 1-0 at home to Hall Road Rangers, Paul Palmer's 36th minute penalty separating the sides.
Six points separate the top five sides in Division One as the promotion race looks set to be one of the closest in recent years.
The top two met at Throstle Nest where Leeds Carnegie and AFC Emley shared a 2-2 draw.
Micky Amos put Emley ahead on 23 minutes but Marco Marchetta restored parity before the interval and Tom Leaver put the hosts in front just after the hour mark.
Mark Stuart converted a 77th minute penalty, however, to ensure a point each.
Fifth-placed Staveley Miners Welfare failed to take advantage as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Pontefract Collieries, Bradley Thompson's 89th minute winner giving all three points to the visitors.
A Mark Vickerage brace helped Askern Villa to a 3-1 victory at Eccleshill United whilst Glasshoughton Welfare were 2-1 victors at home to Teversal, Brighton Mugadze and John Penn with their goals whilst Jake Currie netted late on for the Tevie Boys.
Rossington Main and Grimsby Borough played out a 0-0 draw.
Winterton Rangers are through to the Final of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy after a 2-1 home win over league rivals Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
Lee Beesley broke the deadlock for Moorlands early on but Liam Wilkin levelled before the interval and Liam Slack grabbed the winner half way through the second period for Rangers.
Nathan Hotte's 71st minute strike saw Bridlington Town progress to the Semi-Finals of the East Riding Senior Cup with a 1-0 win at home to Malet Lambert YC.
Scarborough Athletic, though, are out of the North Riding Senior Cup as they were beaten 3-1 in their Fourth Round tie at Northallerton Town.
